Anyway, haven't drawn Glinting for a while. For anyone who doesn't know, Glinting is a hippogriff from my Wheelverse AU whose griffon father was a demi-god son of the Great Roc — an enormous white eagle with blazing orange eyes and streaks of ash and snow on her wings. Hippogriffs are what happens rarely when you cross a male griffon and a female pony (the reverse pairing produces sphinxes), but most of the time griffon x pony produces a griffon or a pony.
In the Wheelverse there's a lot of mythology-style creation stories — which are mostly true! For instance, griffons are decended from the Great Roc, one of the 36 major deities representing the Aspect of Rage, and an ancient race of intelligent lions who have since gone extinct. (Though not before also giving rise to a number of other part-lion creatures.)
On the other hand, pegasi are the children of earth ponies and the Stormraven, a minor deity representing Storms. Earth ponies were greated by the Aspect of Earth, along with most of the ungulates in the world, all collectively referred to as Terra's Brood. Unicorns happened through earth pony x a minor fire deity.)
Both Stormraven and Great Roc are the daughters of Skybird — the major Aspect of Air. Though Great Roc was formed by him from smouldering embers and the heart of a blizzard. Rage is an Aspect on the Wheel of Evils, and the Windigoes answer to her. Stormraven was a thundercloud given form, and lightning crackles over her feathers constantly.
Although I haven't read it, I've vaguely heard that one of the recent Friends Forever comics with Rainbow Dash and Little Strongheart? Has a being called Rainbow Crow who… gave the buffalo fire? Or songs? Or colours? I'm not sure exactly — if anyone knows, please inform me? Well I'm sure I can squeeze Rainbow Crow in as a minor deity of… whatever she does.
Probably one of Stormraven's immortal offspring, or another daughter of Skybird.
Anyway, this is Glinting meditating on all of the different sources of who she is. Her as all of these different species that she could have been.
