What is Manebooru?
Manebooru is a public service for image hosting and querying, dedicated to the MLP franchise and all the creative content its fandom produces. Its purpose is that of a tool for fans to easily access and search images; a tool of outreach, feedback and interaction for artists; and a secure, safe environment for everyone that uses it.
How is this different from Derpibooru or other boorus?
Our rules might make that more apparent, but what made the staff launch their own booru was a firm belief that people and content that go against the lessons of the show are not deserving of using such a service.
Who runs this popsicle stand anyway?
Manebooru is a collective effort with a flat hierarchy—there isn't a single entity in charge or making decisions. Please check the Site Staff List to meet the lovely members of our team.
Why can't I upvote/fave/comment/upload anonymously?
Anonymity makes people unaccountable for their actions, so we don't allow fully anonymous actions of any kind. Logged-in users can post anonymously if they wish, but anyone logged out or unregistered can only browse the site.
How can I contribute?
Just by making content, uploading it (while respecting artists' wishes), and tagging images, you would already be doing an effort we could never thank you enough for. If you are interested in a more impactful job, feel free to submit an application to [email protected].
Is Manebooru affiliated with Manechat?
Manechat's staff gave their thumbs up on the inevitable association that would come with the name Manebooru, as well as their best wishes on the endeavour. However, this site and that Discord server are and will remain separate entities. Please do not bother Manebooru and its staff with things that concern Manechat, and vice versa.
Does Manebooru have a Discord server?
Yes, though it is mainly intended for support, feedback, and policy discussions. If you wish to join, you can use this invite.
Uploading & Tagging
I tried to upload a video and I got a bunch of errors. What should I do?
At the moment, Philomena (the software powering Maneboru) only supports video in the WebM format. Please check this forum thread for more details.
What are all of these license:cc-by-nc (or whatever) tags I'm seeing?
Manebooru allows artists to license their artwork under terms that they control. The most common use and sharing license, the Creative Commons license, has several variations. For a description of what each license allows (or does not allow), check its individual tag page. For a list of all licenses we have available, click here. For help choosing a Creative Commons license for yourself, click here.
Why can't I register my name?
We limit names to 80 characters max, and restrict a set of known, notable names from the fandom in an attempt to prevent impersonation. If you are a person whose name is on this list, or for more information in general, see the relevant forum post.
- My username is already taken, what do I do?
What is artist verification, and how do I get verified?
Currently, verification as an artist merely means getting a shiny badge. However, in the future we plan to add features that will give artists additional control over all instances of their artwork on the site, regardless of who uploaded them.
To verify, you will need to add User Links to your account. These are connections between your account here and those on other sites, such as DeviantArt, Fur Affinity, Twitter, or Derpibooru, which allow us to confirm your identity. You can add these by clicking Links under the site dropdown menu in the upper-right.
Once you've added some User Links, contact us on Discord or at [email protected] and we can confirm your identity.
Can I verify my account even if I don't art?
Yes! Even if you are not an artist, you can verify your account against sites like Twitter, Tumblr, or even Discord. Just follow the same general directions as above.
- How do I change/update/rename/delete my account?
Bans & Deletions
- How do I appeal a staff action such as deletion, removal or ban?
Why was I banned/why was the image/comment removed?
All staff actions are given with a cause. Check your messages or the open log of moderation.
Why didn't this other thing get removed?
If you think something needs staff attention, please make sure to report it.
If you are confused or upset with a decision, please use the Site & Policy forum for further clarification from staff.
If after all of this you still disagree with our decision, we don't ask that you like it, but we do require that you accept it and move on, while remaining civil.
