Her arrival was unexpected, if not a bit early. Twilight had experienced no warnings or signs that she would be delivering her baby any time soon. But yet, there she was. All alone in her bed, labored and sweating, clutching close to her chest a wailing… thing.

Discord had left earlier that day to spend a week in the Crystal Empire, claiming that the lack of chaos the city had been experiencing was no longer bearable for him. So, Twilight lied there among her blankets, holding the new bundle. Thoughts raced in her head, jumping from one question to the next: "What is she?", "What will the ponies think of her?", and
"How will Discord and I raise her?".

As Twilight was thinking through her numerous questions, the tiny bundle filled her bedroom with one of the tiniest cries for attention Twilight had ever heard. The cry was small and sounded pathetic, but to her it was as if all her questions had been answered in that second. She didn't need to worry. The sound of her new baby had stolen her heart in that very instant.

"They're going to love you… I'm going to love you."

Twilight smiled weakly, small beads of sweat still trickling down her forehead. Raising one hoof, she gently pushed the blanket away from the baby's face, revealing her tiny unicorn horn.

Mother Twi let out a tiny squeak of joy, realizing that all of her little tricks and spells had somehow come through! Her daughter would be a princess of magic and chaos. She continued to look over that small bundle lovingly, admiring her tiny antlers and head full of fluffy hair. She touched the baby's little wings tenderly with her nose, ruffling the downy feathers with an exhale of breath. She was perfect. From her antlers, to her mismatched paws, and all the way down to her scaly, dragon tail. Everything about her was amazing to Twilight.

Warm, tears formed at the corners of her eyes, glistening in the moonlight streaming from the window. She blinked them away and stared at the tiny unicorn hybrid. Licking her lips and nodding firmly in a decisive fashion, she said:

"You're name will be Ophelia."

At the sound of her new name, Ophelia opened her eyes. She looked at her mother with the milky eyes of a newborn kitten and growled in a loving gurgle.
Twilight's lips parted in a wide smile and nuzzled in close to Ophelia and cooed, "you're not exactly what I expected… but you're exactly what I wanted."
