Just some headcanons for this little family here
Sunny Forecast is nice, if on a bit of a whimsy high most of the time. She's a huge pushover, an enabler, and will defend her children no matter how in the wrong they are. She and her husband married at a very young age, and nowadays seem to act more like awkward college roommates rather than life partners.
Tornado Trail was the fastest in his class at the Wonderbolt Academy and was fast tracking his way into the elite flight team, but just at the cusp of success had given it up to be with Sunny. As such, he considers his life a series of regretful choices, and really hammers it in to his sons to not make the same mistakes he did. He had begun living vicariously through his children, especially after Thunderlane joined the academy, and showers them with high expectations and little room for failure.
Even as an infant Thunderlane was a squirmy, restless, and reckless child who always found trouble. He never made any schemes (that was more Cloudchaser's job), but with his defiance of authority and little fear of getting in trouble, he was always the one to carry them out. Things slowed down and he stopped getting into so much trouble as he got older, but he's still a cocky little sucker who finds that some rules are still made to be broken… just not all of them.
And as he gets older, Rumble becomes a much stronger flyer and is currently enrolled in the Wonderbolt Academy just like he wanted, but due to his exhaustive schedule for his practicing, he's left with no time to socialize with peers. As such, he's become aloof and antisocial, and clueless on how to make friends. He insisted he didn't need any, but soon found that it was actually hindering his performance. ("One Wonderbolt means nothing without their team, and a Wonderbolt who can't cooperate isn't a Wonderbolt at all.") With some help, Rumble was able to find his own group of friends, and is slowly coming around to it.
