Royal Splendor sulks around his mother's boutique, wincing a bit as he passes by the mirrors. Every time is agony, he turns to see his pale blank flank. The flank of a school aged colt. "Roy!" Rarity sings out as she prances into the boutique. She notices her son sulking. "Whatever is the matter, darling?" Roy perks up, faking a smile "Oh it's..it's nothing, I'm okay." There was still an obvious glint of sadness in his eyes, subtly glancing at his flank then to his moms. Rarity saw right through him. "Are you still worrying about your cutie mark, darling? You know we love you DESPITE your imperfections!" Roy's heart sinks, his mind too clouded with insecurity to think about what she really means "Imperfections? A fault, a blemish, or an undesirable feature?" He gulps and begins to tear up, never raising his voice at anypony. Rarity immediately backs up, realizing what she just said. "N-no darling, that isn't what I meant at all! None of this is your fault; you're not undesirable!" Roy ignores her pleas, shaking his head and stamping on the ground "THIS is why you treat me like a child! Nothing I do ever seems good enough! It's all because I don't have my stupid cutie mark!" Tears begin streaming down his face. Rarity sits up tall, refusing to back down. "Don't be ridiculous, Roy! When have I ever treated you like a child? When have I ever made you feel not good enough?" Roy laughs, "When HAVEN'T you?" Deep down his usual shy self wants to reach out and cradle his mother, apologizing over and over. Tears started forming behind Rarity's eyes as she increasingly felt as if she was slapped. "I don't understand, darling…me, Jewel, your father, we've all loved you since you were born, have we not? And what about Paint, and all your other friends?" Roy lets the tears spill down his face and onto the floor as he turns away from his mother, 'I'll never be good enough for any of you."
