Carnival: Man I hate Canary! She's always got that smug look on her face. Ever since we were little and just running around her mom's animal sanctuary she's been a dick.
Whiteback: Second place in a running competition doesn't sound that bad at all to me. Considering you're just a Unicorn

Whiteback: You've been doing well with the herd. Grandma Strongheart is impressed by you.
Carnival: That's nice and all but I gotta do better! Apples don't come in second for nothing!
Whiteback: I'm pretty sure your mother has lost her fair share of tournaments. Remember what that older lady Cherry Jubilee said? Besides, if you're going to take any lesson from your ma it should be accepting a loss and striving to do better. And maybe not training for the sake of showing up a rival
Carnival: [Huffs indignantly]
Whiteback: Sounds like someone need snuggles.
Carnival: DON'T TOUCH ME.

Carnival Apple is the youngest child of AJ and Jet Set.
Like her father, Carni is just a Unicorn and since in the show proper I think Unicorns are annoyingly overpowered as a race, in the Roseverse they are not as well known for their physical prowess. Nevertheless, nothing is impossible in the Roseverse. Earth Ponies can learn how to fly, Pegasi and learn magic and Unicorns can get buff!!

Carnival normally lives with Leader Strongheart's herd of bison [including her bff Whiteback] but she used to live in Ponyville. While there, she started a rivalry with Fluttershy's youngest daughter Canary. Carnival may be at a physical disadvantage but she trains all year for these rodeos and various competitions to rub Canary's smug nose in it!

So far, she's unsuccessful
