I may have listened to the "Immigrant Song" a few times while drawing this…

So it's Valentine's Day, and what better day to celebrate our married pony couple, especially when one of them is widely known as the Princess of Love? Of course, the marketing for the movie brought up what I thought was an interesting angle on Cadance… In some materials, she was referred to as the "Princess of Family", not "Love". Thinking about it, that family title likely does fit her more thoroughly… We haven't seen hide nor hair of her "love powers" since the episode which introduced her, and character-wise she has certainly been used in stories focusing on family more than she has dealt with anyone's love life. Admittedly, it's mostly been her own family, but still… her role has always been that of the Big Sister Princess to Twilight, to go along with her Teacher-Mentor Princess Celestia. Her transition into motherhood has furthered the theme, of course… but I also like the idea that her backstory (from the chapter books) has her being an orphaned Pegasus (sorry Scootaloo… she beat you to it!) before becoming a princess, and there's something satisfying about an orphan becoming the Princess of Family.

And really, you need a little romantic love in there to get your family started, so it's not like it cuts her off from her original title at all. Plus, there are few things in this world that you want to cross less than an angry Mother defending her family… so it leaves room for her to be much more of a badass than a straight up Love Princess.


On a tangent, I have found myself having some struggles to make ends meet, and as such I am looking to start a Patreon page as a kind of tip jar for anyone who might like to help keep me focused on fan art. The thing is though, I'm really green at all of this Patreon stuff, so I'd be more than happy to hear ideas from people out there. What kind of reward tiers might people want, what kind of incentives and interaction, and so on. Really, any perspective would be valuable to me as I mull over how to actually do this. I would still be posting artwork here as well, although it might be after a delay to give any backers a first look and so on.
