Peter 'Brocky' Brock was Australia's most successful race driver in Australia in his time, and raced professionally right until his death in 2006, where he was killed in a tarmac rally crash. His co-driver, Mick Hone was severely hurt, but survived.
The 2006 Bathurst 1000 (which Peter won a record 9 races) was held in his honour, and prior to the event, fans from all around Australia left flowers, messages and merchandise at Brock's Skyline, named after him. I left some flowers there myself, and I honestly still get mildly teary when I think about Peter.
My older brother and his wife gave me Peter Brock merchandise as a Christmas gift last year, and I got emotional, showing just how much he meant to us race fans.
