- Jawbreaker is the only son of Lyra Heartstrings and Bon Bon "Sweetie Drops". Having two mothers and still being genetically related required the help from a certain draconequus. Lyra and Bon Bon went to Discord for help, asking if there was any way he could help them have children of their own. Despite his desire to turn them down, thanks to Fluttershy, Discord opened a portal to a dimension where everypony were their opposite gender. Lyra got together with Bon Bon's male counterpart, and Bon Bon with Lyra's. After returning to their own dimension, 12 months later, both Lyra and Bon Bon gave birth to their own children. Lyra had Jawbreaker a week before Bon Bon had Taffy Strings. Although their father's are from another dimensions, the genetics are still that of their mothers; so although confusing to explain, they are still a legitimate family.

- Jawbreaker as a colt was very hard to take care of. He was a very hyper colt, and always snuck into Sugar Cube Corner when it was closed to snack. (Which led to Frost staying up a bit later than he usually does — seeing as he was startled by Jaw-Jaw on a few occasions)

- Jawbreaker got the scar over his mouth when he was young and tried joining Bon Bon in a cooking lesson. He tried to grab the knife to bring it to her, but he accidentally grabbed it with him mouth by the blade and it sliced through his lips as it slipped out. After that day he stuck to candy over desserts, but he began making prank candies as he got older. (Weird flavored candies, spicy candies that looked sweet, and his favorite — his namesake; jawbreakers.)
