“Oh! That one looks like a star,” Twilight squealed, pointing to one of the clouds drifting above them.
Timber look at her in disbelief. “Is that the best you could come up with?” He asked, licking his melting chocolate ice cream.
“What?” The mare said defensively, “it’s not like cloud shapes are supposed to be intricate masterpieces.”
“I don’t know about that….” Timber trailed off smugly.
“Why? Do you see a more complicated cloud shape, Mister know-it-all?” Twilight challgenged him.
The stallion stared intently up at the sky for a moment, before perking up with a look of triumph. Stretching out his hoof with a flair, Timber said confidently, “See, that one right there. I’m pretty sure that’s a platypus on a bicycle contemplating whether or not he should confess his love for the cute duck down the street.”
Twilight snorted a little giggle, just as she was taking another lick of her Vanilla soft serve. “Of course you would see that,” she said, still snickering.
Timber was about to make a witty reply when something caught his eye. “Uh, Twily, I think you’ve got a little something on your face there.” He said about ready to snicker a little himself.
The alicorn’s smiled turned to confusion as she tried to feel what was on her chin. Pulling her hoof away, she saw smudges of her Vanilla ice cream on it. “Oh, excuse me one moment, “ she said hurriedly as she frantically searched from side to side for the napkins they brought with them.
“Do you want me hand you a napkin, or would you rather I kiss it off you?” Timber said smirking.
Suddenly, Twilight found one of the napkins tucked neatly under her tail and levitated it to her mouth, saying innocently, “Oh no, I’m good- I found one.”
“Aw, that’s too bad,” Timber said playfully. It least, he thought it sounded playful.
Twilight stopped wiping her chin and say stick still, staring at him with wide eyes. “Why……did you…want to kiss me?” She asked hesitantly.
Oh….she thought I was serious. Well, fiddlesticks. Okay, let’s just play it cool. No need to rush into things.
“Only if you want to,” Timber said casually, shrugging his shoulders.
Twilight gazed away shyly as she nervously rubbed her leg. “Well….it’s just….I’ve never been kissed before…or-or kissed anyone else for that matter,” she chuckled sheepishly.
Now it was Timber’s turn to get a little shy. He rubbed the back of his neck as he awkwardly admitted, “Yeah, well…me neither. You don’t me a lot of girls my age when you grow up on a children’s camp.”
The two half-heartedly chuckled again, before going completely silent. Neither of them said anything and neither of them looked at each other; each waiting for the other to make the first move.
Timber finally pipped up, unable to take the silence any longer, “Do you wanna…”
“Uh…yeah…actually…” Twilight trialed off sorta timidly.
Oh crap, this is actually happening
Timber breathed in sharply, trying to playing it casual, while his insides felt like it was turning somersaults. He tried flashing one of his cocky smiles as he said, “ Okay then, Princess, pucker up for the best first kiss of your life.”
Twilight obeyed, immediately shutting her eyes ( a little too tight )and pursing her lips. “Okay” she said squeakily, preparing herself for the embrace; although it looked more like she was steadying herself for the impact of a harsh blow or something.
The sight of her scrunched up face was adorable and funny looking at the same time, and it tempted Timber to snicker a little, which slightly relaxed his tense stomach.
Okay, Timber, you can do this.
Every second that he kept her waiting was another second the chances of their first kissing being an awkward mess. He had to act now and act fast- no time to think through this, no time to second guess himself.
Swallowing his heart and chocolate ice cream back down, Timber puckered up his own lips as he leaned in towards Twilight with his eyes closed. He felt his heart beat faster with anxiety and excitement the closer he got, and it felt like time crawled to a stop as he felt his lips touch hers.
Twilight and Timber has their first kiss.
It was slightly awkward. Timber came in hard and fast, which startled Twilight so much that she nearly flew back from their embrace. And for the five seconds of their kiss, both held their breath. It was tense, it was sorta rough, and it was not the least bit romantic.
Timber broke away first, not wanting to over do it. He looked at her sorta dazed as he mumbled “….Wow….”
“….Y-Yeah” Twilight breathed, as she processed what just happened. “That…that was…good. It…tasted like Choclate Ice cream.”
Timber felt himself blush. “It wasn’t..too bad for a first kiss…was it?” He asked hopefully.
“ It was wonderful, Timber. Better than I could have hoped for!” Twilight smiled at him, warm and genuinely. Suddenly, Timber felt his tense body relax and he let out the breath he hadn’t realized he had been holding.
“Well then, we’ll have to do it again sometime, Princess,” he said, winking at her, just a little bit awkwardly. But Twilight giggled anyway and Timber felt a bit more confident of their little kiss.
“And next time, you’ll get the Chocolate ice cream flavor free of charge.”
“Timber!”

The great gods at google told me today that it was national kissing day.
My hand slipped.
This takes place only a month or two since they started dating, and only a week or two since they’ve officially become a couple. Everything is still quite new to them, including how romantic kissing works. Don’t worry, they’ll figure it out eventually.
Also, Twilight liking Vanillia as her favorite ice cream flavor is show canon. A little bonus for ya.
