General Bio:

Cricket here was actually born a premie, about two months early, and barely survived. So naturally, she ended up having really poor health growing up, to the point were even as an adult she still struggles with it. But despite having multiple health issues and a fragile body, Cricket turned out to have a very spunky spirit. From Climbing everything in sight, to poking her muzzle into all the varmint burrows, to doing belly flops in the lake. These were her every day routine, even though she could barely stop coughing for half of it and ended up with more bumps and bruises than there are freckles on her face. But Cricket never lets her susceptibility to infections stop her from going out and acting like she weighes more than 60 pounds and could challenge every Timberwolf in the Everfree forest.

For such a small, wheezy thing, Cricket has a temper enough to rival the Flutterhulk. Thankfully for everyone in a thirty mile radius, she's more bark than bite, which is ironic considering she would occasionally bite when she got into playground fights. Even though her short fuse is short lived, she's as stubborn as a mule when it comes to grudges and doesn't take offense lightly. My word of advice: stay off Cricket’s bad side, and she'll generally be pretty laid-back with ya. She might even show you her softer side, which isn’t all soft hugs and warm cookies Like Dusty’s, but it’s full of common sense and tough love.

If you hadn't already guessed, Cricket is quite the tomboy, and will beat up anypony who has the audacity to say she isn't. However, just because she loves to mud dive with pigs, wrestle any colt or filly that will fight her, and shivers at the ‘D’ ( Dress) word , doesn't mean she don’t like some girly things too. Being a sickly child meant she couldn’t go outside all the time, so to keep her busy body from being bored, she learned how to sew and quilt with granny. Even though she’ll never admit it, Cricket is quite fond of her stash of stuffed animals and secretly plays with them in her ‘No Boys Allowed’ closet ̶t̶h̶o̶u̶g̶h̶ ̶y̶o̶u̶’̶r̶e̶ ̶n̶o̶t̶ ̶f̶o̶o̶l̶i̶n̶g̶ ̶a̶n̶y̶o̶n̶e̶ ̶c̶r̶i̶c̶k̶e̶t̶,̶ ̶D̶u̶s̶t̶y̶ ̶c̶a̶n̶ ̶s̶t̶i̶l̶l̶ ̶h̶e̶a̶r̶ ̶y̶o̶u̶ ̶t̶a̶l̶k̶i̶n̶g̶ ̶t̶o̶ ̶P̶e̶a̶c̶h̶y̶ ̶f̶u̶z̶z̶ ̶b̶e̶a̶r̶ ̶i̶n̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶r̶e̶.̶. Another shady female past time of her is reading Filly Fashion Magazines, but honestly, it’s mostly for the “which kind of (insert random item) are you?"quizzes.


Relationships:


Apple jack:

AJ and Cricket have a pretty tense relationship. A good comparison would be to imagine two bulls in an arena, with one strong and sturdy bull who thinks they know everything is being butted at by a infant-sized, invalid calf who foolishly believes they can take on the big dog-er bull. Trouble shoes, who has to endure their constant cat fights, sees it as them being to head strong and stubborn for one another. That’s part of it, but Apple Jacks stubbornness is also motivated fear; fear that Cricket is just like her, biting off more than she can chew, and that’ll it be the death of her weak daughter. Cricket on the other hoof, finds her mother smothering, worriesome, and a bit biased when it comes to her and Dusty. It only got worse as she got older and more willful, which makes AJ treasure the younger days when Cricket would curl up in her lap for a scary story or eagerly offer to help her mom with the cider making.


Trouble Shoes:

To Cricket, Trouble Shoes is the opposite of controlling, obstinate, and bossy Apple Jack; He’s good-natured, relaxed, and easily bribed, which makes him her all time favorite parent. Trouble Shoes is indeed wrapped around her little hoof and is easily manipulated into giving Cricket what she wants with just a look at her tearing eyes and the quiver of her lip. But even though he’s much more chill about things than AJ, he does have his limits and will take AJ’s side when needed. Just like with Dusty, Cricket will often visit Trouble to blow off some steam and get some ̶p̶e̶r̶t̶i̶n̶g̶ comforting. When Trouble isn’t busy working the fields, Cricket loves to watch him practice for the Rodeo and even joins in sometimes. It brings a proud tear to his eye to know it least one of his kids enjoys rodeoing.


Dusty:

Cricket loves her big brother, she really does, but she’s not afraid to speak her mind and tell him she’s thinks he can be such a wuss. Of course, she means that lovingly; after all, it’s her duty to toughen up her soft, weaker hearted brother before he finds out cookies can’t fix everything. Cricket also doesn’t mind teasing and annoying him, which is only fair of course, since he does the same to her with his nitpicky ways and needless fussing over her( which isn’t as bad as AJ's, thankfully!) But as much as the two may fight, bicker, or argue over petty things, Dusty is still Cricket’s closest friend and when things go south for her, she’s truely grateful to have a big, protective brother like him. She also has a life-long goal to one day finally beat Dusty at hoof wrestling and claim superiority over brother once and for all!

Special:


- When Cricket was little (about four), she was so inspired by her father's performances, that she begged to be taught the ways of a Rodeo Clown and how to lasso and all that cool stuff. Trouble Shoes eventually gave in, after promising AJ that he wouldn't be doing anything dangerous. It only took her about under a week to discover that being a Rodeo Clown just wasn't for her, since every chuckle-headed colt or filly that dared to laugh at her, she attacked and managed to beat up with her tiny hooves.


- Cricket loves chickens and that's all there is too it. She was put in charge of the farms chickens and has named them and decorated their beds in the coop with stickers since she was four. The chickens love her in return and worship her as the Flock Leader and Bringer of the Shinny Ball they love to peck at so much.


- Just like Dusty, Cricket can play the guitar rather well and since she has more free time than him, she tends to play it more. She'll play for anyone who asks, but usually the only audience is the farm’s local cows. Though even strangers passing by can sometimes here her songs among the hills. Cricket also yodels pretty decently.

- You can tell by now that nicknames seem to be a pretty consistent trend for ̶m̶y̶ ̶n̶e̶x̶t̶ ̶g̶e̶n̶ the Apple family. In Cricket’s case, she gots hers because, well, if her brother had one, then you can be your apple fritters that she’s gonna have one too. Since she was only three at the time, Dusty used his older siblings rights® to avenge his own nickname and declared hers to be ‘Cricket’. Since you know, she’s small, hops around a lot, and makes annoying sounds. Perfect fit, right? Jokes on you Dusty, Cricket actually liked it and got so excited she started making chirping noises.

On a side note, her actual name, Apple Butter, is in honor of her deceased grandmother, Pear Butter.
