- Typhoon Blaze is the son of Thunderlane and Lightning Dust. Given the nickname "Hothead" by his mother, he also inherited her competitive nature and short fused temper. The only things he inherited from his father were his looks and his (once in a while) acts of laziness.

- During his first final at flying school, Tempest flew down to Ponyville to show his coach that he could create a tornado all on his own, but without looking, he accidentally started the tornado over a campfire. The flames flew up and around the tornado and into Cloudsdale, immediately evaporating the clouds and creating rain. Although he was scolded for it, he also earned his cutie mark from it.

- When it comes to getting along with other ponies, Typhoon is more of a loner. He knows ponies dont like him very much, so he tends to stick to himself, and doesnt work well in teams.

- With his mothers past and her trying to redeem herself from her actions in the academy, Spitfire was a little hesitant to accept Typhoon's application. But she saw potential in him, and Typhoon was sworn into Wonderbolt Academy. However, no matter how hard Spitfire tried to teach Typhoon teamwork, he still blew his partners out of the dust.. And when he did involve his teammate, he wouldnt say a single word to them.

- Even after showing his progress and everypony knowing Lightning Dust apologized and was trying to get better, ponies still talked behind Typhoon's back about the fear that he would end up like his mother and start playing dirty. This, of course, angered Typhoon; resulting in his sassy, rude exterior.

- He may come off as a big meany, but Typhoon's only dream is to redeem his mother.. He just doesnt understand that singling himself out and not getting along with other ponies is not going to help him fix the situation.

- Despite Typhoon's rebellious ways, Thunderlane does his best to try and help get through to his son and truly believes he'll make it someday.

- Typhoon initially had a crush on Spitfire's daughter, Fire Starter, during early Flight School; But he never let it show, because he absolutely hated Firestar's best friend; Solar Flare. Although Firestar joined Wonderbolt Academy, Typhoon knows she does not want to be there. And very rarely, he will break his facade and stand up for her when her heart isnt in the task ahead of them. Sometimes, he'll even offer to be her partner just so he can do most of the work.. Plus, it puts him in the spotlight. Although he DOES help her in a way, Firestar still sees him as a self-centered jerk.. And Typhoon is actually ok with that.
