So, another FoE headcanon picture. this time — the Great War itself and zebra death legion. Do you know Krieg Death Corpse from Warhammer 40000? Those guys in gas masks and with shovels. This are the same thing.

Once upon a time there was strong tribal traditions in zebra empire: the rulers of the provinces could easily put their local interests above the good of the whole country. So once Akofena — the jewel in the Caesar's crown — rebelled against his rule to claim it for their own. First legions that came to fight the rebellious were easily defeated by their army and rapidly increasing militia of tribal warriors. Some of others turned on their side. The Governor made a difficult decision: he called the necromancers and with their help revived the skeleton of an adult dragon, given to him once as a trophy of akofenian hunters. As punishment for the rebellion the fertile land of the richest region was struck by an uncontrollable flow of balefire and so it was turned in a wasteland for centuries.

Soon after these events eastern ponies attacked weakened ampire and took much of its land. And next Caesar, seeing clearly causes of all these events, made a lot of reforms that marked the beginning of the current appearance of the country. Among other things, ruined Akofena it was exempted from all taxes except the obligation to supply soldiers and workers to all other provinces. So their rebellious spirit was finally destroyed, and the once proud and militant tribe disappeared. In its place came the Kazi caste — humble, loyal and obedient.

P. S. I always like these "bugs" of paper and scanner, but now they make sketch look like old photo, that perfectly fits its theme. And the slope too.
