Lord Discord also known as the King of Chaos, is one of the most powerful beings in Equestria, but things haven't always been that way. Discord was the result of a terrible tragedy, when creation turned to experimentation, which in the end turned to complete madness and transformation.


Celestia was horrified when word of the tragedy spread to her court. Her close friend Starswirl the Bearded had been killed, or so most thought. Upon further investigation, it was found that the beast found in Starswirl’s study whom most had assumed killed the stallion, was actually Starswirl himself. Although it was no longer Starswirl but instead Discord, a creature composed of pure chaos.


Discord managed to escape before he could be contained, ending the lives of many guards in the process. Celestia hesitated to send more guards, for fear of harming her friend, but being the great ruler she was, she put her own emotions aside and sent troops to capture the beast. Discord wreaked havoc for quite some time before Celestia finally managed to capture him within a prison of stone, which was one of the hardest things she’d ever done.


For almost a hundred years Discord was contained, until he started to gain power again, feeding silently off of little bits of chaos from those who visited his statue, until he finally recovered enough power to break free. Once free, Discord reigned down upon the ponies of Equestria, striking fear into Celestia’s subjects and causing havoc wherever he went.


This sudden freedom for Discord was ended by six ponies, the wielders of the Elements of Harmony. And until Discord was sent to be reformed by one of the six ponies, he remained nothing more than a stone husk. Once he was released for reformation, Discord took advantage of the situation, and when all was said and done he thought he had won the game because his “friend” Fluttershy refused to allow him to be turned back to stone.


Although Discord had seemingly found a loophole, Fluttershy managed to strike a certain emotion into the beast’s heart, something Discord had nod felt in a long time: regret. Discord suddenly regretted taking advantage of the poor mare, and congratulated her for forcing such a strangely awful feeling into his heart, for it had made him realize that he had lost something oh so precious: her friendship.


Over time Discord became less and less of a cruel chaotic creature, and instead turned into somewhat of a gentle beast, no longer the miserable angry creature searching for any signs of its long lost past, but instead a presence that many enjoyed. New memories were waiting to be made and Discord had never been happier, but that didn't cease the longing to remember his former self.


Eventually Discord decided to ask Celestia if she knew who he had been previously, seeing that she had been the one to turn him to stone in the first place. Celestia happily told Discord about who he had been in the past, how they had been close friends at one point. Discord didn't remember much, but the stories Celestia told him made him feel a little more at peace, even if he couldn't remember all of what he had been before.


Eventually Discord and Celestia were able to rekindle their old friendship, as Discord gradually came to remember more and more, and little by little he became whole again. It was around this time that Discord also started to get to know Princess Luna, whom he had apparently mentored in the past at one point, although he didn't have many memories with Luna, seeing that she had transformed into Nightmare Moon only a few decades after he was turned to stone.


Over time the friendship with Luna became a romance, after they bonded over their similarities. Both Luna and Discord had transformed into monsters at some point, both had been imprisoned as punishment for their wrongs, and both had to come to terms with readjusting to life after imprisonment for over a hundred years each. Most of all, the couple suffered with guilt, seeing that they had both hurt Celestia during their times as their former evil selves.


Luna helped Discord and Discord helped Luna, it helped having someone there that understood, and knew the same pain. Eventually after a few years, Luna became pregnant with hers and Discord’s child. The pregnancy was not an easy one, seeing that she was carrying the child of a creature of chaos.


Once their child was born, Discord and Luna felt as if they had been fulfilled in some sense, it felt so strange that they, creatures whom had once taken the lives of many, could bring another life into the world. Discord had never felt this kind of care for another being, this child was his and Luna’s to protect, and he swore on his own life that he’d do anything to protect his son.
