It had been far too long since Faustus had set out on his quest to seek a cure for his parasitic growth of what most would deem a horn. He sees it as a burden and a constant battle for facing basic tasks in life. Ever since his most recent phenomenon, Faust could just no longer face the constant threat of being a danger to others, nor the ever-present disappointment he's handed every time he meets a new physician, and they tell him they have no clue how to help him and his unique circumstance .
Especially after his recent surge of uncontrolled magic, he had no other choice then to leave. It was in a public display in the middle of town. Others saw what his parasitic horn was capable of and he couldn't suppress the stares, the whispers, and in some cases the cries of mothers who feared their children may be exposed to that monster. That freak.
That Danger to society.
He could no longer stand it anymore, and decided to run, far away into barren lands. He didn't even pack anything or say goodbye to the very few loved ones he had. After his display he just took off into the nearest treeline, shielding himself from scrutinizing eyes and the world as a whole. Since, he's been on his own, Faust can't recount how long he's been wandering. He stopped counting the days gone since time was irrelevant to him. He hadn't a job to be at, an appointment to meet, not even a home to return to.
He was alone.
—
Faustus has been wondering for a good long while, and has seen so many changes in scenery, from forests, to rocky terrains. He overall decided to head towards mountains, for they were very barren and mostly uninhabited except for wild life. Unless you count the very few crazy individuals who actually did live out in the mountains because they couldn't function in society. It sounded a little familiar and sometimes brought a very sad chuckle to the unicorn.
As Faust was trucking along a winding path of the mountain he was treading, he felt the chill of something foul in the air. He wasn't sure if it was an oncoming storm, or a sense of oncoming danger. Whatever it was, the unicorn felt he should take shelter for the night, as the sun would soon dip below the horizon anyways.
He eventually happened upon a little cave in the mountain side. It wasn't very large at all, but was deep enough to shield himself from oncoming flurries or eyes, worst case scenario. He made himself comfy at the very back of the cave and rested is tired and weary body against the far wall as a brace. Faustus let loose a sigh and was suddenly thankful for his thick coat of fluffed fur that has kept him warm throughout his travels, and saved him the effort of carrying a pack of supplies for warmth. The unicorn's eyes began to dip to the slow padding of crunching gravel and he began to-
Wait what?
Faustus quickly became very alert to his surroundings, and tried to remain quiet so he could possibly get away with whatever was stepping around the cave he claimed for the night not noticing him. The unicorn's heart was beating out of his chest during this which led to a very obvious-in-hindsight flaw.
His horn. His blasted, blinding, obnoxious horn. With this realization, Faust began to panic more, which in turn upped the anti on the sheer luminescence of his cursed extension. With this, the padding became louder, and Faust hoped to whatever entities were out there, that it was just some wild animal. Maybe it'll finally put him out of his misery so he would no longer have to suffer with this stupid-
"Hyello?" A voice echoed just outside of the cave the frightened unicorn was dwelling in.
Oh… even better. A sentient creature who instead of seeing him and eating him, will instead glower him down and judge him. Guess it's been awhile since Faust had to deal with a tongue lashing, it was due time for another.
"Please be a cannibal…" Faust squeaked out quietly to himself over lump forming in his throat. He squeezed his eyes shut in fear and tried to hold his breath the best he could, and for a moment there was just complete silence. Faust finally thought he could breathe again he very intelligently decided to open his eyes, noticing someones ugly head bared itself through the shallow cave and was staring him down with large, slit, luminescent green eyes. Unfortunately the terror didn't stop there, thanks to his nuisance of a horn that brightened up the cave with a cold cerulean glow. The eyes were the most noticeably feature, but what really freaked the unicorn out was the rather large, pointy teeth that occupied the creatures mouth.
Please be a cannibal, please please please. But before Faust could keep thinking about the sweet embrace of death, the creature opened his mouth again, "Nice parlor trick… uh" He went silent for a very painfully awkward moment as the creatures eyes darted around, examining the dwelling Faust had made himself comfortable in, then he piped up again, "So…" the creature paused to… whistle and click it's tongue before continuing, "Sorry to bother you, but I've been kinda wandering around aimlessly all day and I have no clue where I'm at right now, so I was wondering if you had any directions at all? I would've just flown around but it's uh? Kinda cold out there and my boys were freezing up and I didn't really feel like crashing to my imminent death right now so I though, hah maybe I'll mooch off of someone for some directions. I was hoping to crash with someone, but I feel like it'd be weird because you knowme being a stranger and all and"
The creature clearly liked to hear himself talk and the words started fizzling out in Faust's mind as thoughts raced in his mind. I don't even know where I am, how can I give this thing directions? Will he think I'm stupid? Crazy? Probably. I mean who hikes out in the middle of the mountains and doesn't know where their going or where they are. What if he wants to stay here? I'll definitely freak him out, I can't be around others… no no no, not when I'm like this. I'm out of control, I don't know how long it's been since I've seen another creature. He'll call me a freak, what if this creature reports me to the authorities and they lock me up in an institution and do experiments on me and I never see the light of day again
"Hey? You okay there?"
Faust snapped out of his racing thoughts to realize he was hyperventilating and his crystallized horn's glow was growing more intensely, and starting to make him feel a bit dizzy. The dark unicorn's eyes darted back and forth, up to his horn, then to the creature who's previously intimidating eyes, seemed to form into an expression of… concern? Or was it repulsion in disguise? Faustus could no longer dwell on these thoughts of what ifs because he started to feel very cold. He began to lean further back against they wall hoping he could somehow warp through it and disappear. Instead he sunk to the floor of the cold cavern. Before he could try and recollect what exactly is going on, he noticed the creature making advancements towards him.
