Without a doubt, her hair took me the longest to finalize out of all the ponies. It seems like it should be so simple, but every time I tried, it came out too tall, too small, not wide enough, too spiky, or…just plain bad. Once, I completed five different tests for her in one day, and none of them came out looking right (after which I picked up the nearest test and threw it across the room in frustration while I pulled out what was left of my hair). Poor AJ stood there bald on my table for weeks, watching as other ponies received their hair, waiting patiently for the day that she could finally get her own.

And then one day, it just clicked. It's funny how certain things can elude a person for so long, especially when the solution ends up being so simple as to be painful. All it took was a little help from a certain wall-eyed mailmare. While glancing at my reference sheets for the hundredth time, I realized that Applejack shared the same basic hair shape as Derpy, and I already had a rather nice pattern for Derpy's hair. It snowballed from there—a few simple pattern alterations and one single test later, I came up with the finalized hair design you see here. :D
