Page 375 — Getting Dangerous
While AJ's not quite there yet in this session, an exceptionally clever player can take control of the game and get the DM to do what they want from time to time, rather than the reverse. It manifests in several ways, but the most common I've seen (and used) is when an opportunity arises and the player blurts out, "Oh man, wouldn't it be awesome if X happened?" or "He rolled that on THAT check? I'll bet that means X." It's like DMing from the opposite side of the table, but phrased as a silly suggestion.
Sometimes that's just the banter of the game, and sometimes it's deliberate. I'll let you decide which it is the next time you hear it in your own games.
Transcript:Pinkie Pie: Eye flutter…
Twilight Sparkle: So, do I have to leave the room or something?
PM: Nah, I’m not a fan of that whole schtick. You can stay, and we’ll just assume you’re off with Cerberus.
Fluttershy: Why did we have to split up again? I’m still kind of confused.
Applejack: This next Pinkie Sense crisis, whatever it is, it’d mean having to put off dealing with Cerberus. And I’m bettin’ that’s one of those time-sensitive things. So, we divide and conquer instead.
Pinkie Pie: Knee twitch! That means something BAD is coming out of the Everfree Forest!
Applejack: Sounds right up our alley. Let’s go.
Fluttershy: No, no, that’s BAD news, Applejack! Why are you smiling??
