I guess if there's a reason why I like writing, storytelling, and roleplaying so much, it's because I like seeing how motivation works. How emotion transmutes into willful action. What makes people tic, basically.
Sure, sometimes the motivation is "performing this task will get my imaginary character this cool imaginary loot so I can pretend-battle more effectively," and you still learn something from that, but sometimes the motivation is "they made you cry; now I'll make them cry," and that's when things get interesting.
