Now there's a Story Time idea. Defining moments that make you want to stand up and declare, "I love this game!" (It doesn't specifically have to be the RPG system you were currently playing, though it could be.)
For me — and I've told this story before — it was my first 4e campaign where my players ditched me with no actions left as we fled the hoard of a dracolich. I spent 45 minutes barely but successfully managing to talk my way out of it. It was the most intense roleplaying of my life, and it solidified my role as the party face.
Transcript:DM: <sigh> Well, it takes a while to boil a whole cauldron's worth of potion, but you'll be able to distribute it by this evening. Meanwhile, as the pegasi are starting the wind up and the Breezies are preparing to leave, Seabreeze turns to Fluttershy.
Seabreeze: I'm sorry for the things I said. I was just worried I wouldn't get home to my spouse and child. You've been nothing but kind, Fluttershy. I hope next year we can meet again.
DM: And the Breezies slowly drift away, carried by the wind on their gossamer wings.
Fluttershy: <sniff> I love this game.
