One of the babies at the hatching grounds wasn't claimed by her biological parents for unknown reasons, but Caldera's heart melted when she saw her and she promptly adopted the little one.

Dragons who already have young often enlist their help when taking care of newly hatched babies, since smaller dragons have a much easier time handling them safely. Garble spent a lot of time looking after Smolder and is quite knowledgeable as a result. He is now passing that knowledge on to his inexperienced sister.
