I guess that's what youd call it?? it's not all that realistic buuuutttt I wanted to draw the mane 6 with more realistic coat patterns! each one is based off of an irl horse coat pattern c:

applejack: buckskin paint. in this au she's the only one who's actually part horse! (except for fluttershy) hence her size and power
twilight: bay roan. this seemed the closest to purple to me? nothing too special here but I like the red mask these colors have going on. average size, this is twilight right after she was elevated to an alicorn so none of her magicky attributes have appeared yet. maybe I'll do a separate ref of her with them?
rainbow: blue roan. she was the most fun to design! i added some brindle in there to imitate her cutie mark
pinkie pie: palomino spotted. i dont know if this pattern actually exists? plus its not even palomino, i pinked it up lmao. pinkie's the smallest but still has all that earth pony energy
rarity: dapple grey. longe and elegant
fluttershy: cremello. second tallest after applejack, and she has minute amounts of earth pony in her genes! this makes her a bit taller than average and causes her to not be as graceful a flyer as a more full-blooded pegasus. it does, however, give her the extra strength to do things such as massage-wrassle an entire bear
