Redraw of a piece I made back in 2018! Seems like ages ago:

I remember being super proud of this, especially the wings. For a long while, this piece of Flash was the most favorited piece in my gallery, which I was also very proud of!! Looking back, I obviously see a million imperfections. I don't get how the wings were ever my favorite, because they look so cluttered to me now :') The way I draw wings has completely changed since then. I reference real birds like falcons and hawks, aiming for a more semi-realistic look

Also his eyes are off centered lmao ;-; His neck is super skinny and looks a little odd, and his hair is just… boring


So! I tried to fix that, mostly! It is really, really refreshing to look back and be happy with how much I've improved. Anyway, I made Flash's hair a lil fluffier, added more colors to it, and gave him some falcon-like wing stripes. He's also really really muscular, and is the First Sergeant of the Crystal Empire's military. He's got a lot of scars and two slits in his eyebrow

As First Sergeant, he takes his job very seriously, but he is known to be a little goofy sometimes. He doesn't mean it, he's just sweet. He has a RBF but he's just as sparkly and bubbly as the other Crystal Ponies. Not only is he respected, he's considered a friend to many.

He usually wears makeup, mostly eye shadow and mascara to make his lashes longer. It's pretty custom in the Crystal Empire for ponies to wear makeup- it's just part of their culture.

Flash is Queen Cadence's Royal Guard, and he doesn't take that position very lightly. He would sacrifice his life for the Queen in a heartbeat. He met Sunburst, his future husband, through his job! Since Sunny is the Royal Crystaller and technical third guardian of Flurry Heart, the two are basically with each other 24/7. Cadence gave the two a little push- she could definitely see something brewing between the two of them, but they were both way too shy to approach the other.

One of his closest friends is Twilight. Maybe they even dated at some point. Flash is gay, but he went through a long period of questioning (he dated Sunset Shimmer during this time, and convinced himself he loved her romantically). Speaking of Twilight, she helped Flash come out to his surprisingly conservative family in a world of pastel ponies. They always expected him to marry a mare when he was old enough, which is a pretty odd mindset for the equality-embracing world of Equestria. Twilight stood beside him during the conversation, giving him a reassuring hoof to hold. Sunburst, his boyfriend at the time, waited outside just in case the news didn't go over too well. (Good news, it did!)

Flash is flirty. All the time. He seriously doesn't mean to be, though, he's just very naturally charming. He attracts stallions and mares from all over by accident.

He's pretty short, which is typical for pegasi, but he's packed with muscle. It makes him look way taller than he is. He trained with the Air Force (the Wonderbolts) for 6 years before transferring to the Army, where he continues to serve as First Sergeant and Royal Guard to Cadence.


I used to really dislike Flash but now I kinda love him. He's pretty and his colors are so nice ;-; I kind of made up my own version of him in my head and disregarded his canon personality. Never liked the fact that his whole personality was being a love interest for Twilight. So he's… this version in Cassiverse. He doesn't play a huge role, but he's there!
