) asking how pinkie's cutie mark story would vary in this AU, given how different her parents are from canon.

so the rainboom happened, and pinkie gets her burst of happiness and excitement that she does in canon. She'd never felt happiness like that before, and her immediate response was to share it with those around her — maybe papa was just so harsh because he'd never got to experience that kind of joy before! and oh, mama never smiled either, maybe it'd cheer her up too!

so, she worked tirelessly over night, preparing one of the barns with streamers and confetti, compiling all the music discs and players from around the house, and baking "delicious" multi tiered sponge cakes (but like lets face it, she's like what… 8 yrs old? idk. probably doesnt rlly know what she's doing, likely full of egg shells).

In the morning, she eagerly leads her parents and her sisters down to the barn, bouncing up and down, barely able to contain her excitement. With a cheerful giggle she pushes the doors open, and introduces her family to her hard work, expecting cheers and happy dancing.

But uhm. well, Igneous is far from pleased.

He yanks Pinkie by the tail, pulling her down to the ground and stares her directly in the face, scowling. He raises his voice and shouts at her about the complete mess she's made in his barn, how she should have spent this time she'd wasted doing actual farm work, and that this wasnt what he'd raised her to be.

Pinkie, eyes tearful, looked over at her mother. She could only give Pinkie a guilty look, before turning away and focusing her eyes to the ground.

Igneous released her with a snort, and snarled at her to start cleaning it up right away, before he left the barn and called for Cloudy to follow.

At this point, Pinkie was wailing uncontrollably. All her hard work, for nothing? She'd really just wanted to make him happy, but all she'd done is made things worse… why had she even bothered, this was all so stupid, she was stupid for thinking this was the right thing to do….

But through her bleary eyes, she managed to catch site of her lil sister, Marble, digging straight into one of the cakes gleefully. Limestone shut the door to the barn, and started heading towards where Pinkie sat. Maud followed, picking up Marble (face first in icing) on the way.

Limestone gave Pinkie a reassuring pat on the head, and told her it was a nice try, and a pretty awesome party she'd put together. Maud agreed, and Marble made some sort of noise of agreement. In fact, they all wanted to stay and party with her, instead of doing their morning chores — and they did exactly that, papa be damned.

Towards the end of the morning, seeing all of her sisters enjoying her party and her hard work,earned her her cutie mark. She had barely noticed it appear, but once she saw it, she was both ecstatic and terrified — she finally had her purpose, but it wasn't rock related! She worried it'd be a disgrace to the family name, but Limestone reassured her that it just meant she was extra extra special.
After finishing their party and cleaning up the barn, they received a bit of a stern telling off from Igneous (Pinkie being shielded from most of it by her sisters). He didn't notice Pinkie's cutie mark… or rather if he did, he didn't care.

so ye, ty for the comment! i lost motivation for this arc before and im gradually rebuilding momentum with it now. this was really fun to think about — also finally got me to draw cutie marks for once

side note, the cutie mark chronicles is interesting because we only really see how the mane six got their cutiemarks from their perspectives. I know in a later episode pinkie actuall keeps a photo she took of that day, but it sorta got me thinking that it's almost plausible that the story that we know is just a lie she tells the cutie mark crusaders to keep the story happy. just an idea i guess
