So this is another idea I had for the AU, because the existence of Discord always kind of nagged me in the back of my head. Like "what the hell is he and how do I explain his existence in this AU?". Well, I had a thought. I figured the Draconequi are much more ancient and elemental than the show makes them out to be, and I had this idea that there were originally three draconequi that were the first creations of Gaia, that were basically the builders of their planet. I suppose it's a lot like the triforce in Legend of Zelda, where the three goddesses built the land, all holding their three individual roles of fire, water, and nature.
Now I had the thought that there would either be three draconequi for fire, water and nature. Or alternatively, there would be four of them for the four elements: Fire, water, earth and air. Either one could work honestly and I haven't fully decided which option I'd like to choose. So these designs aren't 100% finished yet! I don't even think the names are 100% either, they might change if I find better names lol.
Maybe I'll make some extra concept art for both options and let you guys decide which is cooler. As far as the story goes right now, it doesn't have a huge impact wether there's three of them or four of them since I haven't gotten to developing that part of the story yet. :p so yeah, keep that in mind, these are still in the concept-stages.

Originally, there were three Draconequi on Mox Equinox, long before the true existence of ponies and alicorns. These Draconequi, an odd cross between pony and dragon, were the very original builders of the planet spawned by Gaia to build, grow and nurture the planet until it would eventually be introduced to Time. They're timeless, immortal beings made to stitch together the very fabric of the planet and making it stable enough to eventually sustain life.
The first Draconequi was named Sol, the spirit of Fire and foundation.
The second was named Lochne, the spirit of Water and memory.
And the third was named Osirus, the spirit of Nature and stability.
The three worked harmoniously to ensure that the planet had all the resources it needed. In the beginning, the three draconequi often remained on the planet's surface, frolicking in the trees and mountains and being one with the work that they had helped to create. They were even close companions of the first alicorns; Terras and Aetheria. They helped bring them into life and helped raise them, introducing them to the world around them and getting them accustomed to it. Over time the draconequi let the two alicorns explore on their own, letting them get introduced to one another on their own terms, bridging their gap.
Once Mox Equinox was ready to be introduced to Time, the draconequi took a step back and remained mostly isolated from the rest of the growing population of the first ponies and other creatures, as to not interfere with their natural growth. Lochne and Sol remained content in their isolation, proudly watching their creation give new breaths of life into its new pony inhabitants. Osirus, however, began having doubts.

As the spirit of stability and life-giving, Osirus grew discontent. Is this it..? Is this all life is about…? Born, procreate, die, repeat? He started seeing other potential for these new creatures. He saw their growing curiosity for what's beyond the borders of their world. There could be so much more to life than this. If only, if only these ponies knew even a little taste of the timeless, reality-bending, chaotic power he had… they would be unstoppable. They would be happy. They would know everything there is to know.
Lochne noticed Osirus' growing lust for mayhem, and tried her best to advise against it. She tried to reason with him, saying these creatures are happy the way they are now, that there is no need to give them more power. Sol echoed her statements saying that giving the ponies this kind of power would only cause them more pain and suffering, that they are too fragile and impressionable at this stage to have such a responsibility. But Osirus just grew impatient and bitter, getting more and more isolated from his draconequi companions.

When Celestia, Luna and Orion were born, things started growing more tense. As he watched the three siblings grow, he saw exactly what this world could create; beings with the potential to harness the magic of pure Chaos. These ponies… these alicorns… they're so… disappointing. Don't they know they could be so much more? What if… what if they were? He could make them that way. He could give it to them. He could give them all the answers, wisdom, power and knowledge that they seeked. And if he did… they'd worship him. He'd be their king.
At that moment, Osirus realized. He needed more. In his blind lust for power, he began changing… underneath Sol and Lochne's noses, he'd go to the surface of the ponies and take a part of each race. A wing from a pegasus, the foot of a griffon, the horn of a peryton, the feathers of a hippogriff. More, more, and more… all parts of these creatures that roamed this world, all a token of what kind of power he could create. Parts that he needed to be One with this land, and have control over it once and for all.
He finally achieved the thing he wanted. Complete mayhem. Practically overnight, he had stitched his body together with all these bodyparts, finally transforming himself into a creature created from nothing but pure, unfiltered Chaos. From the ashes of Osirus, Discord was born.

Nothing stood in his way. Not even Sol and Lochne… despite their best efforts of controlling Discord, calling his true name, begging for willpower, restraining him, nothing worked. Osirus was gone, and Discord was too powerful, even for two of the previously most powerful creatures known to ponykind. Discord overpowered them, imprisoning Sol in eternal damnation in the depths of the Earth and banishing Lochne to eternally drown at the ocean floor. With them out of the way, there was only one thing left for him to do…

Discord, suddenly and unexpectedly, attacked Equestria. He began transforming it into his chaotic kingdom, reigning terror across the inhabitants. He sweeped up the land and kept it under his claw as the residents could only stand and watch. The three alicorns watched the chaos ensue and decided enough was enough. They banded together in order to defeat Discord.
Discord cackled as he introduced himself and his power to them. He explained he could give them all the power that they desired. He sensed the lust for it in them. But before he could finish, the alicorns attacked and began to overpower him. As powerful as Discord was, he lacked skill, something the alicorns used against him to finally imprison him. Using the Elements of Harmony, they managed to overthrow him. But in a last ditch effort to show them what he could do, Discord cried out one last blow of his power towards Celestia, the eldest of the three. Orion, the youngest, shoved Celestia out of the way and took the blow, getting fatally injured right before Discord was imprisoned into stone. Later that night as Equestria returned to normal, Orion succumed to his wounds and later passed away from his injuries, marking the first day Celestia and Luna would rule alone.

Everything after that is pretty self-explanatory. When Celestia and Luna lose the connection to the elements, Discord is freed but then imprisoned again after being defeated by the mane 6, only to then be freed again and begin his reformation. Discord is nowadays still seen with a skeptical eye by the majority of the population, but ponies like Fluttershy knows he's no longer that maniacal draconequus that once took over the world thousands of years ago. Celestia and Luna both hold a big grudge against him for killing Orion, but both (mostly Luna) recognice that Discord has nowadays changed for the better and are willing to coexist with him for the sake of their kingdom. Discord is highly remorseful for his previous actions

As for Sol and Lochne, their fate it still unknown. Some ponies consider them to be deities and often pray to them for warmth or hydration. As the spirits of fire and water, they are rumoured to still be around in more spiritual forms, with Lochne ruling the oceans and rain and Sol ruling the flames and warmth of the earth. However, their physical forms are nowhere to be found, with some speculating they may be buried deep under the ocean on underneath the earth's crust. Wether or not they will return to the overworld is not known, as Discord has stated he does not know how to reverse the curse he put upon them while his magic was still corrupted.

Originally in the show, Celestia would be the one to suggest reforming Discord. But for the sake of continuity in this AU, it's changed to being Twilight as a test of her determination in becoming a princess. It doesn't make a whole lot of sense for Celestia to suggest that Discord should be reformed since he did kill her brother, even if it was thousands of years ago. (plus, Celestia in this au is a liiiiittle more wack than normal, lol)
