On young Celestia's recent birthday she had received Philomena the Phoenix, the immortal bird that would be her trusted companion throughout her life.

Tia was told that a Phoenix eats meat just like any other carnivorous bird. Mostly small animals and should be fed meat to properly care for the Phoenix.

At no point did any pony make the connection that little Princess Woona fit the "small animal" category so perfectly.

Curious little Woona's first meeting with the Phoenix occurred at night after raising the moon in the dark palace chambers when every pony was asleep.

Philomena was uncaged and had been woken by Woona's little hoof steps. Woona would be chased by Philomena for hours because no one could hear Woona's cries for help throughout the chamber.

Woona wouldn't be rescued until the next morning, traumatized, frightened, and shivering in a small space Philomena couldn't get into.

Woona fleeing the Phoenix the entire night destroyed much of the inner palace and Woona was paddled severely afterwards.
