Thisd be a kind of interpretation of how I imagine it is that Princess Luna watches over every ponys dreams. Each of those little orbs are supposed to represent a ponys dream. The magenta one, though, means a pony is having a nightmare.
Also, the orbs idea isnt fully mine, I saw a picture over on dA not too long ago that had this same basis Id link it if I remembered which picture it was, sorry
