While the protagonist may have some occasional dips in fortune here and there to keep things interesting, they've got a laser-guided happy ending waiting for them at the end of the episode. Antagonists don't have that luxury. Instead, they've got laser-guided humiliation and/or pain waiting for them, and they've got to be incredibly lucky to avoid either one. "
