Widjet’s parents were international traders, and had built themselves a very large scale company. The original business was just jewelry and gold, and named Aurum & Arcs Jewelers. Eventually it branched out to all forms of trade, with a name change to Aurum & Arcs Co. Shortly before their deaths in an airship accident they’d sold the entire business, intending to retire in Canterlot to be closer to Widjet after the death of his brother. Aurum was 61, Geodaisia was 59.
Aurum Leaf was built like a tank as far as unicorns go, and Widjet got very little from his side of the family in terms of features. He was also very strict and by the books, but never cruel. Still, it was a source of conflict between the two, and that was only exaggerated by the fact he was only around half the time. Before Widjet left home, Aurum and Daisy (the name she preferred in good company) would take turns being at home while the other took care of the business. They never had any serious falling out, but when Widjet left to become an airship mechanic he made a point of his disapproval.
Daisy was tall and lean much like Widjet, and it’s where he got his build from, she was also the carrier of the curse, and as it had no effect on mares she never suffered any ill effects. Widjet got along much better with his mother, she was very kind and accepting, even of his decisions with his career. She did have an intensity to her however, and it’s possible it’s where Widjet gets his temper from.
Widjet’s childhood was among the elite of Manehattan, where he lived and grew up. Despite it he never cared for the expensive or high class society. His parents wanted him or his brother to take over their business, and once his brother had signed up for the equestrian military it was left to him. He had other interests however, starting his eventual career as a simple grease monkey for the local transport authority.
After they died, Widjet inherited everything, but sold their estate in Manehattan to stay in Canterlot and continue his work for the Crown. It’s left Widjet very wealthy, though he doesn’t care for it at all, as the money reminds him of what he lost in getting it.
