Flash Magnus was a warrior unparalleled in honor among all his troop and arguably the entire Royal Cloudsdale Legion. In his time, it was not unusual for Pegasi to take frontline roles since there was less integration between the 3 main pony races (even less so, the non pony races). His swordplay was a slightly nonstandard style from what the pegasus military taught. The results Flash would produce were more than enough to keep the higher ranked off his back, and when his achievements would catch up with him, he would decline any promotion offered with the intention of staying as close to any battle as possible.

The pegasi he would work with would start to call him a gladiator since they thought that he declined every promotion since he loved battling to the death with a passion. In truth, he feels he could simply do the most good on the frontlines with his body rather than in the leading others with his mind. Flash’s superiors have pushed for him to be promoted time and time again to keep a leash on the Warrior. His honorable nature tended to lead him astray when there was some wrongdoing around him or there was an immediate danger he needed to tend to. This heroic tendency has caused more than a few diplomatic issues with neighboring races. The messes he leaves in his wake would be cleaned up again and again, but the net positive in lives and reputation when the dust settles tended to leave a good impression for all parties.

The incident that led to him leaving the Royal Cloudsdale Legion was his superiors trying to prevent him from saving a gryphon bordertown from a sizable band of wind elementals. What made this event different was the tensions between the pegasi and gryphons over a territorial dispute. Both sides were making a claim of a mountainous area that also housed some very strong clouds, so the gryphons and pegasi were looking for any excuse to muscle the other group out. If the Legion make any mistakes in their assistance, the more war mongering gryphons will retaliate and a war could break out. When told of the situation and why he should back out, Flash merely scoffed at the notion of letting others die when they could feasibly be saved. They tried to make him stop with official order, but in the face of potential insubordination, the pegasus unflinchingly tossed aside his uniform and flew off.

Without saying a word, he became a deserter to one of the greatest aerial militaries in the world. Flying at full speed to the village in danger, Flash could already feel the winds picking up. When he got to the village proper, the winds were getting close to tearing large branches off nearby trees. It took all his strength to maintain flight, but Flash could do little else. The strong winds were beginning to form an ominous vortex as he continued to struggle. In a flash of brilliance and desperation, he decided to ride those same dangerous, swirling winds to get closer to the elementals. WHile he was making slow progress cutting though the gales, he could hear the faint shouting from his former allies among all the howling that surrounded him. His time was up. A deserter would need to be incarcerated, especially one that could start a war if he made a mistake or caused casualties. Rather than try and escape, Flash continued his mission to at least finish what he started before being detained. When the Legionnaires caught up with him (much quicker than he imagined they would), they explained that the higher ups used the desertion as an excuse to intervene.

Together with the small task force, Flash was able to subdue the elementals by disrupting their winds. Breaking through gale force winds is a simple task for a group a pegasi. The battle itself was swift. Elementals are far from sturdy opponents. The trick is getting close to them when they rampage. After the winds died down, the gryphons that were in hiding came out, met, and cheered for their heroes. When the Gryphon army arrived, they had to begrudgingly thank the Legion for the assistance lest they lose face with their own citizens.

The political boon Flash had given his creatures wouldn’t stop him from receiving punishment. While the brass couldn’t just discharge a military hero, his recklessness had to come at a price. His payment for his actions was an informal discharge of sorts. This way, Flash could still be toted around as a hero of the Legion without having to deal with his heroic tendencies. His newfound freedom didn’t last long as his heroics found the ear of a unicorn looking to make a team. Shortly after that, the hero vanished into darkness only to appear far flung into the future to meet his successors.

Legion Swordbreaker — Most Legionnaires have a scimitar to call their own, and Flash is no exception. However, his was modified with permission to have more defensive capabilities. Flash’s combat style used his shield more than most did, and had requested his sword support his shield actions as much as the shield did sword. The resulting teeth in the blade made for quite the intimidating look

Legion Shield — The standard shield given to all Legionnaires. There is nothing that makes Flash’s shield special in physical regards, but no one treasures their off hand more than Magnus. The pegasus saw his shield more than something to keep himself safe, but rather another tool to use offensively, even if the shield itself didn’t specialize in it. The weight was suitable enough to cause havoc, and his ambidextrous self was more than right for the job of maximizing its battle effectiveness. Even if the shield itself isn’t special, Flash’s attachment to and skill with it made it a signature of his appearance.
