"Seriously though, this movie is a bit weird, but not for the reasons you’d expect.

I love the way it looks, and I love the way it’s put together. It has lovely landscapes, beautiful cinematography (despite it being animated), and it just makes me want to visit Scotland. I also like the diversity amongst the different clans and how their rivalry is portrayed, it’s a lot of fun at the same time it moves the story forwards.

Too bad the story is its biggest weakness. This movie feels like two movies put together by a useless editor, and you can totally see the seams in between them. This ruins the tone and pulls you out of the experience. From what I heard this project started with one director, but then she got fired for “creative differences” and the studio decided to complete the rest of the film with someone else. I guess wining the Best Animated Feature Oscar made everybody happy despite all the drama, right?

Still, if you want to have a reason to visit the wonderful country of Scotland, give this movie a pass. It will leave you wanting more of those gorgeous sights.
