Artist's Description
Этот День Победы
Порохом пропах,
Это праздник
С сединою на висках.
Это радость
Со слезами на глазах.
День Победы!
День Победы!
День Победы!
[English translation]
This Victory Day
Air saturated with gunpowder,
It's a celebration
With temples already gray,
It's joy
With tears upon our eyes
Victory Day!
Victory Day!
Victory Day!

Today is Victory Day — the end of Great People's War, which is a part of World War II — a war between USSR and Nazi Germany in 1941-1945. It is one of the main celebrations here in Russia — day of glory, day of sorrow, day of memory. I can even call it sacred in a way.
My own grandfather was a lieutenant of Red Army and was seriously wounded under Konigsberg (modern Kaliningrad). My great-grandfather was a major, was fighting at Moscow, Kursk and was wounded by Kiev. My "grunkle" (greatuncle) died during breach of blockade of Leningrad at the age of 20.
I felt like drawing something to honor the memory of my ancestors, who were fighting and sacrificing themselves, so that we could have peaceful skies above our heads.
