"The Door To Hell is a gas field near the village of Derweze in northern Turkmenistan. During the days of the USSR, the Soviets tried to extract the gas from the field but in 1971, the field collapsed during drilling and due to fears of the release of poisonous gases, the soviets ignited the gas in the crater and abandoned it thinking it would burn out completely within a few days but it's been burning for more than 40 years and is still burning today (it shows no sign of stopping)."
