EDIT: It took me days to realize I uploaded the wrong file. I had corrected the colors after chatting with Relyet and then uploaded the earlier draft. >.< Sorry.
The image is not an actual scene from the story. (At least not as of writing.)
I imagine that Luminescence would point out that the balloon, if kept intact and floating, would make them a more visible target while traveling. Abbatoir would point out that it could be used as a decoy in a pinch, and that it works well with the dress. Air Heart would probably ask again with an extra please. Crunch would probably give Lumi a look and a nod. And then Lumi would probably let Air Heart keep it but with some silly restriction or agreement attached. And knowing the Wasteland, it probably wouldn't stay intact for very long.
(Unless it's enchanted or something. But given the particular character, I'd rather imagine it was lost decorations from Enclave celebrations that fell to the surface, and is partially made out of cloud material anyway such that only fliers could interact with them. Or something. An idea I sorta kinda played around with before.
Icarus — “Great! Unless exposed to adverse conditions.” Balloons often used for decor or gaming props in competitions and races up in the skies. A form of a balloon made with no rubber at all, just cloudmatter and other air-accessible goods. Icarus balloons are produced by the sky-based manufacturer Cumulonimbus. These balloons float with ease- no need for helium!- and are just as soft as Cantertex balloons at a fraction of the cost. They tend towards a ‘poof’ rather than any kind of violent-sounded explosion, but with high levels of pressure they can ‘thunder’ and if charged enough they can effectively produce lightning. However, because they’re made of cloudmatter, their inflated state is not very cooperative with non-Pegasi non-Griffon creatures and poof out of existence at their slightest provocation. For fliers, there’s not a better deal to be had. (Thanks to Rainbow Dash of Equestrian Dawn. Jul. 1, 2013) 9 — 64”
