"Mothers of Harmony" character bio #1: Twilight Sparkle's mother.

BIO: Velvet is a bright and outgoing unicorn. Like her future daughter Twilight Sparkle, she's an alumnus of Princess Celestia's School for Gifted Unicorns with a major in literary studies and a minor in teleportation and rematerialization spells. Velvet is also an aspiring author, known to her friends around campus for writing her own gripping adventure stories. Even before the birth of her firstborn Shining Armor, Velvet has always had heightened maternal instincts; she was well-known for being very helpful and nurturing toward her fellow students, and she absolutely adores litle foals. When Nightmare Moon returned and Velvet knew the key to defeating her, she was of course mostly concerned with keeping Equestria safe, but she also saw it as an opportunity to be like the brave adventure heroes she'd loved to read and write about.

ELEMENT: Magic

DESIGN: Between when we first see Twilight Velvet in "The Cutie Mark Chronicles" and when she shows up again in "A Canterlot Wedding — Part 2", her design doesn't change much. At all, really, even though the two scenes take place several years apart. Since this is twenty years prior to the show, I wanted her to look at least a little differently. For starters, she has a slightly different hairstyle to more closely resemble Twilight Sparkle's mane, and since her appearance is based on G1 Twilight, I also gave her a tail bow.
