[Previous][Index][Next]* * Someone asked me if my gripe with the season two finale was the abrupt introduction of Shining Armor and Princess Cadance. It was something that bothered me, yes, but not as much as what I'm really making this comic about. But, now that Shining Armor is here, I may as well talk about him.It seems typical that in writing for TV, characters that are deeply tied in with already established ones (e.g. BBBFFs like Shiny), but not introduced until there's a story to tell with them, come off very awkwardly. I guess is that it's because these writers don't think ahead when writing their episodes, and don't consider that they'll need to establish their new characters in one or more of the episodes beforehand, especially if the character doesn't get to do much to show his nature during the episode.Shining Armor suffers from this greatly, especially because the episode A Canterlot Royal Wedding seems like the culmination of many important events that happened, but were never actually shown. The set up time during the episode isn't really enough support the affectionate but tenuous relationship between Shiny and Twilight on its own, so the arc of their relationship during the episode doesn't get to have the kind of impact, I think, it should have had.As for the character of Shining Armor himself, he seems like the kind of character I could grow to like just as much as any of the mane 6, if he was given the chance he deserved, but never got in the show. So, do I dislike Shining Armor himself? So far, no. Do I dislike the way he was introduced? Yes. Hopefully, I'll be able to make up for this failing of the show by having Shining Armor get to be more of a character, rather than a love-serum regurgitating dumb-ass in distress. * *My Little Pony © Hasbro,Friendship is Magic was created by and assistants.
