Starlight Glimmer was the owner of Sunset Village, a township in the middle of the Badlands that crosses the Solar and Luna lands. When she ruled it, it didn’t have a name. It didn’t need one. All it needed was her. That's really all she wanted, the recognition of her power. She didn’t need a cutiemark to get it, and her villagers shouldn’t need one either. Starlight gave them purpose. More importantly, she gave them a home. All of her citizens were looking for a place to stay, and the Unicorn gave them so much more.
Her grudge against cutiemarks started when she was young. Her friend, whom she spent days on end playing with, suddenly had a cutiemark befitting a magician, so they sent him off to a Magick school to further his abilities, leaving her by her lonesome. Since then, she’s had an unnatural hate for cutiemarks, even to go so far as to injure her flanks for deigning to show a mark against her permission.
Using this village, she set out to prove how little they were needed by perfecting a spell that would remove a cutiemark and their natural talent. It never occurred to her to observe just how empty her villagers initially looked after removing their marks.
After her plans were shattered by the Warriors, she began to obsess over them and what made them so special. She thought that since their cutiemarks matched the powerful Relics of Harmony, she should just change how they got their cutiemarks. Then she wouldn’t have to be bothered by those ponies from the start. Using her Magus’ ability to manipulate time, she began to travel through time itself to find when they found their purpose, which all started from one point. Since time travel is a tricky prospect, she would have never guessed that she would be followed. With such a powerful spell being used, there would be some residue of the Magick. Enough to be sensed by a obscenely powerful being. The one who followed her, Twilight, knew many beings powerful enough to warp reality around them with a snap.
Their battle interrupted the catalyst for their cutiemarks multiple times and every time would fling them to an alternate future, each one worse than the other. The battle ended when they began to feel tears in the fabric of space-time. It was then that Starlight began to feel the gravity of what she did to herself, to her village, and to others. All to gain petty self satisfaction. After exhausting each other to near collapse and seeing the consequences of her actions, Starlight conceded. Twilight even promised to take her under her wing to teach the ways of companionship. Unfortunately, the cracks in space-time didn't seal as they hoped, and a certain Nightmare was able to slip by undetected.
Staff of Sameness — When gathering followers to her village, she took the guise of a simple Black Mage with a dream. Her staff was the calling card of her Black Mage appearance. Even without the disguise in her village she would carry it around like it was her catalyst just to keep appearances. She told others who inquired that it was a very old artifact that could enhance her cutie mark removing Magicks. However, It's just an oddly shaped, wooden stick.
Starlight Globe — Starlight’s true weapon. A globe that measures many things at once, such as time, distance, and even air pressure. The Globe was her family heirloom, but when she ran away, the powerful Magickal catalyst was one of the first things she reached for. It was also one of the first things she returned after her defeat.
