There was a lot of theorising in the fandom that he was an earth pony on account of his hat obscuring his horn. When the horn was revealed, at least one fan (myself ) was quick to point out that we'd still not seen him topless, leaving alicorn as an option! Later turned out he doesn't have wings either, but still. Here he does in shadow-form!
