As mentioned before, Desert loves weapons. Her dad, whenever he stops by, always give her weapons from various locations for her to marvel at. Even when she lived in the desert with her father, she adored the perfection and glint of a finely made blade. So when she moved to Equestria, she assumed that the country had little to no weapons and the few that there were, were poor quality. This is due to her father critiquing how lax the security was in Equestria in comparison to his homeland.

So imagine her surprise when she is awoken from her mid morning nap to the sounds of metal striking metal. She watches in awe as a old stallion creates blade after blade, each more beautiful than the last. After an hour of watching, the old pony offers her a front row seat and shows her step by step how to forge a weapon.

It's only at times like this that she isn't tired during the day.

Note: she is fairly young in this pic, hence why she has no cutiemark yet. She's like, 12 or 13 here.
