Primrose let out a gentle sigh as she walked into her room. She closed the door behind her before grunting. Falling on top of her bed, she levitated her secret diary.

Dear Diary,

Big news, I have a date tonight for Hearts And Hooves Day!

It won’t be much, I think.I’m not that excited about it.

I mean, he said he liked me, so I should give him a chance.

He's seems like a nice enough colt, Party Storm. Anyway, I’m off! I’ll write soon Diary! Bye!

Primrose closed her book, threw on a beautiful white dress and ran out of her room, galloping past her mother. She had told her mother earlier about her date, and Fleur had been pleased about it. She waved as Primrose ran. As she walked the night streets of Canterlot, she sighed, smiling. The peace and quiet of Canterlot made her feel very tranquil. He had told her to meet her in the Canterlot Garden, causing Primrose to only dream about how they’d spend their night. She pictured them dancing and looking at the stars. Despite what she had said, this was her first official date, and she was very ecstatic. When she reached the park, she sat on a bench that wore many pink blossoms and roses. She assumed it was for her, and that Party Storm was a true gentleman. She waited and waited. Thoughts that she had been stood up swirled in her mind as a tear fell down her cheek. The moon was straight above her in the sky when she heard a noise in a bush. She squinted her eyes, looking for something, but found nothing.

“Ummm, anypony there?” She stood up, walking to the sound with curiosity. There was a loud click, and Primrose starred up. A bucket of dirt fell on her head. “What in the-” She shook her head in frustration, looking around. When she glanced up she saw Party Storm surrounded by a group of stallions. He wore a devilish grin upon his face.

“Oh I’m sorry, Rosie,” He smirked, and Primrose stood up, scared and unbelieving. “Did that dirt get in your perfect dress and mane?” He raised a bucket with what Primrose could only assume was water. “Here, let me wash it out for you!” He tossed the bucket at her, and the water hit her face with a heavy force, knocking her back to the ground. She shook her head in confusion and fear as the group of stallions surrounded her. Disappointed, Party Storm sighed.

“Damn, it didn’t wash that ugly skin off. That’s a shame! Aint it, fellas?” There was a loud cheer and a small whimper from Primrose.

“I-I don’t understand.” She stuttered. “Y-you said you liked me.” Part Storm let out a loud laugh that made Primrose sink further into the ground.

“Who could ever like you?! You’re a freak of nature! A child from Tartarus! An experiment gone wrong! I bet your parents only pretend to love you because they feel terrible about the hideous creature they created!” He leaned down to whisper into Primrose’s ear. “You are the ugliest mare in Equestria.” Primrose stood up, crying as she ran away from the terrifying laughs that were heard behind her. She sprinted as fast as she could, and when she reached her home, she ran inside into her room. She ripped off the dress best she could, tearing it apart. She shook her head, trying to flick off the dirt and water. Fleur knocked on the door before entering. She then let out a loud gasp.

“Oh, mon chéri why are you crying? And what happened to your mane and dress?” Primrose shook her head, allowing her pillow to soak in tears.

“They tricked me, Mère.” Primrose cried.

“Tricked you, whatever do you mean trésor?” Fleur asked, concern written on her face. Primrose said nothing, until she levitated a small note over to her mother. Fleur read it and at the end she let out a gasp. “Why those Mal, gourmand, égoïste, arrogant-”

“They were right Mère. I have freaky skin, and I’m not pretty.” Fleur covered her mouth in shock. It saddened her to see her daughter think so horrid of herself. She leaned over bringing her daughter into a large hug.

“You are not ugly, you are the prettiest mare in Equestria.” Primrose simply stared at her mother with depressed eyes.Fleur paused, taking a moment to think. She smiled softly. “Mon chéri?” Primrose looked up at her mother. “Have you ever heard the saying, ‘La beauté n'est pas le visage; La beauté est une lumière au coeur’?” Primrose had briefly studied Prench, but gave up it after a couple weeks, only knowing the basics to understand her mother. Fleur chuckled. “I didn’t think so, trésor. It means, ‘Beauty is not the face; Beauty is a light in the heart’.” Fleur lifted her daughter’s chin up. “So ponies can tell you that you look unpretty, but unless you succumb and are rude and selfish, you will always be the purist and prettiest. And when you are at your low point Mon chéri, don’t be afraid to tell me instead of a journal. ” Primrose blushed and smiled at her mother.

“Thank you, mom.”

“There shall never be thanks, for I am a mother. It is my job to make you feel secure and protected, as well as loved.”
