History:
The last child to Fluttershy and Big Mac, Sugar was a very healthy foal and yet, a very needy one as well. As a toddler he was the main reason this branch of the Apple family couldn't have nice things. His penchant for breaking things, tasting everything within his reach and pulling on other pony's manes, meant that the cottage didn't have many visitors. However, as he grew he began to take on more of this parent's traits and grew calmer and quieter, though he was quite picky and seemed to have trouble stopping a task if it wasn't finished and completed to perfection. In school, he was seen as somewhat of a snob because of his tastes and didn't make many close friends. He was always interested in new information and was quick witted, not only with schoolwork, but in street smarts and word play as well. When confronting bullies he would gladly embarrass and confound them with clever comments or observations, rather than return a punch. One of the few things he enjoyed, aside from realigning the books on the shelves in Twilight's castle, or brushing is and his sister's manes, was going down to Sugar Cube Corner for sweets. Mrs.Cake got to know the little colt quite well and one day offered to let him help with a large order. While dealing with his perfectionist tendencies was tiresome to say the least, the mare was impressed with how quickly he picked up on the skills and how adept he was at pinpointing flavors and even editing recipes ever so slightly. Mrs.Cake agreed to have the colt as an apprentice in her store twice a week after school and only a month after the agreement was struck, Sugar's cutie mark appeared. Considering it was a wrapped candy and not a cupcake or baked good, Sugar decided to expand his knowledge to the world of sugar confections. He still worked alongside Mrs.Cake, now as a paid employee, but he put more time into researching candy making and saved up money to take trips to factories and speak with veterans of the trade.
By the time he was out of school, the young colt had saved enough money to afford a small shop in Cloudsdale, where he could open up his own candy store, 'Sugar Delights'. It was a hit in no time. Each year he brought in more profit than the last and was able to upgrade his machines and buy more materials to make more kinds of candy. Though, he refused to let the store grow beyond anything he could handle by himself. He insisted on being the only one to make the candy and only employed two other ponies at a time to run the register and deal with customers. Though he could easily begin building a franchise and setting up more stores, he continues to insist that one store is plenty and he will not allow another candy maker in his employ.
