"Let me come with you," Discord’s voice dropped an octave as he stared down at Luna, his eyes narrowing softly as he took in the silvery sheen of her dark coat under the light of her last moon, "What sort of friend would I be if I let you do this alone?"

"No," she breathed, trying not to look him in the eyes as she took a few steps away from him, "We do not need your help this time…this is something we must face alone."

"Face?" he slid forward, the weight of his upper body carrying him low as he curled around the princess and barred her path, "Your face is what I’m worried about, Princess. Why, if something were to happen to it I- I…"

Looking up at her now, the light from above casting long shadows on her narrow face, he couldn’t help himself.

"I love you, Luna," the words slid from his maw on a near whisper, but they were said all the same, "If anything were to happen to you, I…I don’t think I’d be able to live with myself."

The dark furred alicorn stared into Discord’s eyes, the one thing she was trying so desperately to avoid, and felt her cheeks flush with heat. She hoped she had misheard him, hoped that he had meant something else or said someone else’s name, but no. Discord, the harbinger of chaos, was staring into her eyes and telling her he loved her. Breaking out in a cold sweat she felt her mind race to catch up with the rest of her body, but it was too late. She’d since raised her hoof and proceeded to stomp it down onto the draconeqi’s snout before giving her wings a short flap and launching herself over his barring presence.

"D-don’t tease us with your contrived attempt to get us to stay, you selfish, lowly creature," landing on the other side, she proceeded to trot off angrily all the while trying to slow the rapid beating of her now weakening heart. She didn’t look back, hardly caring if he followed or gave up and went back to her sister.

Once she’d gone, Discord rose from the dirt and dusted himself off before lifting his head in the direction she’d gone. With a soft huff, he smiled…and followed after her.
