The original concept for this picture had Pinkie Pie in place of Sonata Dusk. We thought of this because Pinkie was a perfect candidate to represent the character of Sandra Bullock, all bubbly, optimistic, but quite naive too. It was halfway through doing the sketch that I thought to change her for Sonata Dusk, and it wasn't just because of the "Taco Bell <→ Sonata Taco" connection. It was both a personal and a design choice. I've never had the chance to draw Sonata, so drawing her in this guise was something I couldn't miss out on. Also Sonata's color palette, with those many shades of blue, was perfect for both the sci-fi setting, the police outfit, and the lighting I was going to use for the scene. Besides, Sonata was the most innocent of all the Sirens so she could pull off Sandra Bullock's character as well.

The Armored Hot-Dogs jingle will be in my head forever now, though.

When it comes to ""Demolition Man I think nobody said it best than the Nostalgia Critic himself. It's a movie that has managed to stay relevant and has aged surprisingly well, mostly because it's a retroactive satire of how society works nowadays. The movie is all about two extremes that end up colliding. One wants an unrealistic level of freedom that can only end with the World in chaos, while the other wants an unrealistic level of control that will end with the World in an authoritative dictatorship. It's all about finding the middle ground, which is what the movie ends up building up to. You can look past the machismo, the testosterone, the explosions, the action, the punching, the swearing and the rat burgers, and beneath it there's a pretty intelligent social commentary delivered thanks to really good characters, clever dialogue, inventive set ups, and an aesthetic that has managed to stay timeless while also celebrating the time when this movie came out. It's an underrated movie that happened to come out at a time where sci-fi action movies were frowned upon.

"Demolition Man" manages to, not only age well but also stay relevant thanks to it's clever script, likeable characters, and nineties cheese, which in today's politically confused, socially ambivalent and nostalgia driven society makes it stand up not only as a time capsule of its time, but also a good sci-fi movie with the same amount of brains and brawn.

Seriously though, what a curious interpretation of the future.
This movie was really entertaining, but even more so because of the way it portrayed the society of the future. It’s not like any other movie I’ve seen where it combines a very cynical tone with a very innocent tone as well. The acting is great, the characters are all likeable (even the bad guys!) and the story is pretty clever too.
One thing I’ll have to say though is that it meanders a bit too much towards the end and all the thrills from the beginning slowly fade away. We still have a pretty solid two thirds, so there’s that!
I can easily recommend this movie, even if it deflates a bit towards the end. It’s an underrated sci-fi classic.
And now, if you excuse me, I need to go bury my head in a pillow…in a bathtub full of ice cubes. I need to get that jingle out of my head.
