ARTIST NOTE:
With a squeal, Dinky slid down the slide for the twenty third time that day. The slide was small, but that just meant she could enjoy it again and again and again. This was true of most of the equipment in the playground, including the playground itself, but it was still absolutely magical to the grey filly. Fall break was here, but while Dinky might be able to enjoy the week off, her mother could not. Come rain, shine, or school holidays, the mail had to go through, and that meant the older Hooves had to work.
So, that meant babysitters, and one of them was standing at the bottom of the slide, giving Dinky a smirk. Dinky liked the twins almost instantly — it was hard not to. Cloud was fun, always with some new game up her sleeves, happy to join Dinky on whatever she asked, and had that perfect dose of rowdiness to her. She was a blast. Flitter wasn't quite as fun, but she was able to appreciate the wisdom of cutting a sandwich in triangles rather than squares, so that definitely won her some points in Dinky's eyes. Anyone who realizes that crusts are gross is a friend worth knowing.
Still, fun though they are, they were in charge, and that meant Cloud had to deliver the words any kid having fun comes to dread. "Come on, kiddo, time to go."
"Awww, do we have to?" Dinky whined, knowing the answer already. Cloud could only shrug. "Sorry kid, your mom'll be back in an hour. We can't leave her waiting, right?" She offered her hand to help the filly up. Dinky reached for it, tentatively.
Then made a break for it.
Dinky ran for the back of the slide tower as quickly as her legs could carry her, scurrying up the ladder and out of Cloud's reach. At least, that was the plan. The filly's short legs were no match for the pegasus' long slender ones. Dinky wasn't slow by any stretch, but she couldn't hope to escape Cloud's athletic frame. They both knew this, at least Dinky did after the first day, but it had become part of their daily ritual at the end of the day. Dinky would try to escape, only for one of the sisters to inevitably catch her. She was getting better; she had made it all the way to the far corner of the square tower before two long arms wrapped around her waist.
"Yeeeep!" Dinky squealed, half in alarm, half in delight. "Put me down!"
"Ho-no, not this time, you little stinker!" Cloud laughed, holding the squirming unicorn as best she could, but that was proving difficult.
"If that's how you want it, fine, try this!" With a grunt, Cloud let go of Dinky, only to catch her by her legs and swing the surprised filly over her shoulder, before grabbing one of her arms and hoisting her across her back.
"Cheater!" Dinky managed to yell straight into Cloud's ear, though it lost some momentum to her giggling. Dinky tried one last time to squirm free, but Cloud's grip was like a vice. With her cargo secured, strode out the playground gate, motioning for Flitter to follow. Her sister rose from the bench and caught up, admiring Cloud's catch.
"Like my new scarf? I just got it."
"It's lovely! I like the stripes." FLitter chuckled, giving the "scarf" a little poke.
"I'm not a scarf, I'm a filly!" Dinky shot back, trying to kick her legs but to no avail.
"See, it talks! Pretty cool, huh?"
A smirk almost matching Cloud's spread to Flitter, and she gave Cloud a knowing glance.
"A talking scarf, huh? You know, I heard the best thing you can do for a talking scarf is get some ice cream."
At the mention of that, Dinky perked up, looking back and forth between her captors. "Ice cream? Where?"
Cloud only laughed. "We do have an hour to kill…"
And with that, the trio set off to take care of their new scarf in the best way possible…
Sooooo, not the Halloween pic, but that's rendering as we speak so it counts. Should be up shortly. Anyway, this was an older scene I had laying around that I revisited and tried to make look a little prettier, as the original was rather bleak. And Dinky is a cutie-patootie so she gets some time out in the spotlight. She's also super fun to dress up; I like going with that "cool 90s girl" aesthetic for her. Now she just needs a backwards cap, some giant overalls, some lime-green and hot-pink shoes, and ATTITUDE.
Butts.
