- Gideon is the first born son of Dumbbell and Gilda. Despite there already being pure blooded hippogriffs, Gideon was born from a pony and a griffon, making him a hippogriff as well; but a hybrid one instead of a pure one.

- As the eldest brother, Gideon is wise beyond his years with a very high IQ, and once each of his brothers came along he acted as a guide and pillar of wisdom for the two of them to follow behind. He was the only one born with hippogriff features. (Beak, claws, etc)

- Gideon took an early interest in learning about his family; Both the pony side and the griffon side. He began researching his parent's childhoods and even went around asking other ponies and griffons who knew his parents for information about them. He wrote down all his findings in a book and eventually over the years helped it become a record of the families history; And Gideon decided to become the family historian.

- Gideon does notice a difference between him and the pure blooded hippogriffs, but he doesn't consider himself any less of one. Once in a while he will head to Mount Aeris and see what living like a Pure Blood Hippogriff is like; Although he's never been to their underwater land despite his curiousity to know what it was like down there.

- Gideon usually has to get his little brother, Gabriel, out of an arguement he started; Acting as the voice of reason when Gabe can't seem to shut his mouth. He gets along better with his littlest brother, Galen; Seeing as he's rather quiet and shy compared to them. Gideon is very protective of Galen, knowing despite his mouth getting him into trouble, that Gabriel could take care of himself if he had to.

- Gilda ended up moving to Ponyville with Dumbbel after having Gideon, so Gideon and his brothers do live in Ponyville and even attended the School of Friendship. Gideon gets along very well with pretty much everypony, and has no issue making friends.
