Solaris was sitting at his desk in his room, he was bored out of his mind as he scribbled mindlessly on the parchment with a quill that was running out of ink. It was late, nearly Ten o'clock, but the prince just wasn't tired. As he scribbled, Solaris sighed softly.

"you okay Princey?" a gruff sounding voice asked from behind the prince.

Solaris turned to see who the voice belonged to, and was greeted with a large silhouette against the moonlight from outside. after his eyes adjusted to the darkness away from the light of the candle on his desk, he was able to make out a large bat pony's features. Soon enough Solaris realized the pony before him was his personal guard Tobias.

"I'm fine, I just cant sleep." Solaris said softly, standing up from the large pillow that he was sitting on at his desk and turning to face Tobias. "wait, what are you doing here? you're off duty." Solaris said, tilting his head a little bit in confusion.

"oh um, well you see.. I just wanted to um.. check on you." Tobias stuttered the sentence nervously, worried that the prince would pick up on the blush that had reddened his cheeks a little bit. Solaris oddly enough did not notice the bat pony's nervousness, instead only choosing to nod slowly.

"do you want to go for a fly with me?" Solaris said, breaking the silence suddenly.

"what?" Tobias said, looking down at the prince with confusion.

"flying always clears my mind, it helps me sleep a little better too." Solaris said softly, looking up at Tobias with a smile. Tobias debated whether or not it was a good idea, what if Queen Celestia caught them? Tobias knew the Queen was not fond of him, she only kept him around because he was good at his job, which was protecting Prince Solaris. Tobias' train of thought was interrupted when he looked down at Solaris again, the prince was just too cute to say no to.

"okay." Tobias said with a smile, Solaris smiled too. "thank you." the prince said.

suddenly without warning, Solaris reached up and gave Tobias a small peck on the cheek. Tobias froze for a moment, his eyes wide, did Prince Solaris just kiss him?.

"well come on! what are you waiting for?" Solaris said, prancing over to the balcony entrance like a happy foal. Tobias snapped out of the shock suddenly, and turned to follow the prince out to the balcony.

once they were on the balcony, Solaris climbed up onto the wide railing and stood gracefully. "ah! careful!" Tobias exclaimed upon seeing the prince atop the railing, before Tobias could say anything else Solaris slowly fell backwards off of the railing. In a panic Tobias rushed to the edge, only to be suddenly greeted by a gust of wind as Solaris flew straight back up again right in front of him.

once Solaris was up in the sky again, he called out to Tobias, "come on slowpoke!" the prince teased.

Tobias smirked and took off in one powerful beat of his wings, blasting himself high into the air. Solaris watched the bat pony with a wide smile, soon realizing that Tobias liked speed just as much as he did. The pair flew close for awhile, until Solaris flashed Tobias a challenging look, showing that he wanted to race.

"oh it is on. Tobias smirked, blasting himself forward with powerful thrust of his wings. Solaris soon caught up, he was much more graceful than Tobias with his slim figure, but he still had a lot of speed to show off. After a back and forth of who was in front, Solaris dropped down and came back up right in front of Tobias, flying off to the side while looking back at the bat pony with a mile wide smile.

"keep up Batsy!" Solaris called out as he looked back to see Tobias before looking ahead again, thrusting himself into a large aerial backflip loop.

soon Tobias caught up and the flew side by side for quite awhile, just talking.

"this was so much fun, I'm a little winded from being so out of shape flight-wise but this was still super fun, thank you." Solaris said, giving Tobias a genuine smile. Tobias smiled back at the prince, "well nothing fun ever comes easily at first, it takes time to learn enjoy some things." the bat pony said, quoting from a book he had once read.

"you've read 'the last flight'? that's my favorite book!" Solaris exclaimed.

"really? I didn't know that anyone else had even heard of it, I used to read it often in my early teens. I loved reading about Mako and how he overcame his disability with the prosthetic wing, and the ending! its so sad!" Tobias exclaimed, remembering the book from his childhood.

"I know right? its such a good book though." Solaris agreed happily.

soon the couple reached Canterlot Castle again and they both flew swiftly down to Solaris' balcony and landed at the same time. Both of their manes were in disarray due to the breeze and the speed they had reached earlier from when they had raced. "that was fun, we should… we should do this again." Tobias said, a little out of breath.

"I would like that." Solaris said, giving Tobias a sweet smile as they gazed into each other's eyes lovingly for a moment. Tobias cleared his throat a few moment later and looked away, "I should go." he said softly.

as Tobias turned away to leave from the balcony, Solaris spoke up.

"You forgot something."

Tobias paused and looked back at Solaris, "wha-" before Tobias could finish, Solaris pressed his lips again his. The kiss lasted for about 5 seconds before Solaris finally pulled away. Tobias stood there silent for a moment, unable to speak. "Batsy?" Solaris said, breaking Tobias out of his daze. "I uh, um.." Tobias could only manage a few stutters, barely able to form words as he slowly came out of the shock.

"night Batsy, I'll see you tomorrow." Solaris said with a smile.

"night Princey." Tobias said, watching Solaris turn away from him to go inside. Tobias lingered for a few moments before turning away to take off, glancing back for just a moment to whisper a simple "love you" before taking off into the night sky.

Tobias had a smile on his face as he flew through the starry sky, just like Solaris had a smile on his face as he climbed into bed and fell asleep peacefully.

The Last Flight: a story I made up based on an old oc I had named Mako, who was a pegasus with one wing that did not develop in the womb (his mother thought it way okay to drink excessively when she was pregnant, its not don't do it please.), in this story Mako grows up to be a talented crafts-pony, and makes himself a prosthetic wing (after lots of trial and error of course), and he proves everyone who ever said to him "you'll never fly" by flying, IN A RACE MAY I ADD. Mako doesnt win the first race, but after years of racing he finally wins. the end of the book concludes with Mako telling his grandchildren about his story, showing them the prosthetic wing (which he has framed in one of those shadow box thingies, with golden letters painted on the glass that say "the sky is the limit if you're brave
