This is a piece I did for an upcoming Brony Thank You Fund MLP calendar which will have a Super Hero theme. I wanted to do something out of the ordinary and character who I haven't drawn much. So I asked if I could do Lyra as Dr. Strange.

The design of piece is something of a fusion between the original Doctor who appeared in Marvel comics and the recent movie version of the character. However I did study the movie and still shots from it extensively for costume and color palette cues. The setting is loosely based on the final scene in the film, but I cleaned up the background to avoid the stupendous amount of clutter that clogged the screen.

The piece also let try to a speed technique that I used on orbs floating in the picture. I was much more aggressive with my use of marker underpainting and for this piece and type subject matter it let finish the background much faster. The entire background was done about 10 hours. The complete final piece from final graphite drawing on the working surface to signing took about 24hrs. The image size is about 12.5"x 19.5" in size and was done on Strathmore 500 Series vellum finish Bristol Board
