Ok, my first shot at a small AU. This takes place sometime after "Saddle Row Review"

Rarity has become a famous boutique owner and fashion designer, but has chosen to stay in Ponyville for the peace and quiet. She has dated many Canterlot stallions but never settled down with any of them due to how stuck-up and rude a lot of them were.

She lived by herself focusing on her work in fashion until one day while sewing a dress for an important client there was a knock on door, on the other side of the door was the local mailmare with Rarity's fabric order. She noticed Derpy looked less lively than usual, her mane was a mess and her eyes were baggy.

When asked about it, Derpy said it was no big deal and just working extra shifts trying to hide the fact she was expecting with an unknown stallion's offspring. A fact that was revealed when she had to rush into the boutique's bathroom with a wave of nausea, Rarity told her she could rest on the sofa while she made her tea to soothe the soreness in her throat. When everything calmed down Derpy told Rarity about how during a friend's birthday at the bar she had a little too much to drink and went home with a stallion she now can't remember who left during the night. She thought it was no big deal until one day she started feeling sick for no reason, or so she thought at the time, when she went to the ponyville hospital she was given the news.
With the news that she was now carrying she felt she had no choice but to work double to afford both the house and a child to feed, barely getting sleep with the early shifts and nightly sickness episodes.

Rarity felt she couldn't let the once bubbly mare work herself to exhaustion and decided to step in, allowing Derpy to live with her so she could go back to her usual hours of mail delivery and have more time to rest stress-free. They are now living together and have grown to enjoy each other's company.
