- Buckwheat is the second born and only son of Braeburn and Spitfire. He was named after Braeburn's beloved dog he had as a colt. Buckwheat was born with a rare form of vitiligo that instead of losing pigment in his coat, he has random dark patches all over him.
- Bucky grew up a normal colt, prancing and skipping around. He was loud and rambunctious and even kind of obnoxious. He was berated by his classmates for his coat but he always has his big sister to watch his back. Him and Jay were always extremely close until the faithful day she graduated and boarded the next train to Canterlot to join the Guard. The separation affected Buck, only 12 at the time, so dramatically that the little colt clammed up and lost his spunk. It didn't help schoolyard bullies were mocking him for still being a blank flank when he's almost a teenager. He found comfort in his mother, who was a gentle soul towards her children, and with his father in the kitchen. Buck always enjoyed baking bread with his father and then one fateful afternoon when he perfected an old Apple family recipe his cutie mark finally appeared.
- Speaking of the Apples—Buck was always close with his cousins, especially while his sister was gone. Ambrosia was the cousin that made him feel whole again. it was her that broke the news to Buck that Blue Jay's battalion was coming home (gingerly ignoring the fact that the battalion was nearly wiped out completely). Once Blue Jay returned home, after being gone almost five years, Buck started warming up again but he's still painfully shy and his sister tries desperately to open him up.
- Currently Buck works as an apprentice under the baker in Appleloosa, hoping to one day take over as head baker. His shyness often gets in the way but hopefully with his sister back at his side, he can break through it and realize his dreams.
