“Nothing yet?”

“Nothing…” Paint Swirl sighed disappointedly, staring into the empty mailbox. She idly blew a tuft of her messy mane out of her face and mulled over the bills and sports magazines that had been delivered that morning. Clearly, none of it was of interest to her.

“I…I don’t understand…” Royal Splendor shook his head. “You really put a lot of work into this. Why wouldn’t anypony come? Or at least respond…”

“Sometimes ponies are like that, I guess,” Paint shrugged. “Busy, I guess. Or they just don’t care. Not everypony wants to donate to charity, you know. Especially for ponies like us…” She gazed sadly back at her undersized wings.

”But why wouldn’t they care? Ponies with disabilities, ponies with differences, are a part of our community just like everypony else. If ponies can donate tens, sometimes hundreds of bits to the poor, I don’t understand why they can’t take a few hours to help their own peers feel more accepted.” Roy immediately shied away from his unusual show of assertion. “I-I mean, I know ponies are busy, but…”

”No, I get it,” Paint smiled softly and patted the unicorn’s shoulder. “Thank you, Roy. You tried your best to help. I guess some things are just a lost cause.” With a frown, she sighed and walked slowly back into her house.

Roy watched helplessly as she walked away so defeatedly. It pained him to see her like this. She has been so passionate about setting up this charity event; he knew how personal it was to her. He didn’t want to see that go to waste.

And he wouldn’t let it go to waste, not if he had anything to do with it. Roy certainly had the resources to do so, with plenty of money and a very influential family. He just didn’t have the social skills or bravery to actually run it. But he would do what he could, just for Paint. Anything to keep it from being a lost cause.
