"C'mon, champ," Lightning Dust said, placing a wing around her daughter. "You gotta try out at least once. I bet you got more talent than all of those recruits combined! Especially Dash's brat." That last sentence held a great deal of bitterness and resentment. Solar knew that it wasn't Stormbolt that Lightning hated, but rather, his mother. She didn't know what transpired between Rainbow Dash and her mom, but she was certain that it wasn't pleasant.
Solar Ray glanced down at the ground and grumbled, for what had to be the tenth time, "Flying's just not really my thing, ma."
"But it could be!" Lightning insisted, pulling Sol closer. "I can train ya! Turn you into the best flyer that the Wonderbolts' have ever seen! I know you have potential. After all, you are my kid."
"Ma…"
"Just try out for the team once, and then I promise that I'll stop bugging ya about it!" Lightning Dust promised.
Solar Ray pondered the offer for a moment and then looked up at her mother with her big blue eyes. "You promise?" she asked hesitantly.
"Of course, kiddo!" Lightning Dust stated. "Why don't we get started now, huh? I know several great wing exercises that would benefit you. And you could also—"
Her mother's voice trailed off in Solar's mind. All she could think about is how miserable she was going to be for the next few months. Why on earth did she agree to this?
